We love the name Etta but only as a nickname and want something more traditional as a full name, so we’re thinking Julietta.

…but does this sound too much like Romeo and Juliet? Might they get teased? Or am I overthinking it?

We have explored all other “etta” names and none feel quite right. Also I’m struggling to like any other girls names at all!

Any opinions and suggestions welcome, thanks 😊

Sorry but Rowan and Julietta is not going to work.

There must be other options. I can only think of Henrietta and Marietta.
And Loretta, which is okay-ish.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/09/2022 22:43

. Claretta. Pauletta. Rosetta. Arietta. Loretta.
Although Why can't you just use Etta. What's the fixation on here about having full names on a Birth Certificate.

Ivy
Willow
Linden
Holly

Not 'Etta' names but girls' tree names to go with Rowan!

Howardsbend · 11/09/2022 22:54

Just use Etta if you love it. Perhaps long form Annette?

Wren and Rowan

chatterbug22 · 11/09/2022 23:33

Harriet? Might be a reach to get to Etta from there but goes lovely with Rowan?

chatterbug22 · 11/09/2022 23:34

Or Violet? Tbh I think it’s a natural NN and the alternative to Vi, which she may also get

Charlotteaf · 12/09/2022 06:41

Thanks everyone, so do we think Rowan and Julietta is a no go?

Other than etta names I’d probably go for tree name. I like Willow and Hazel but also Olive. Is Olivetta a name or have I made that up to suit my situation? 😂

Olivetti was a make of typewriter!

As has already been mentioned, Henrietta and Harriet fit the bill and are lovely names, IMO

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/09/2022 08:36

I think it’s ok esp if you are mostly using Etta. Prefer Henrietta though.

SnowdropFox · 12/09/2022 13:12

I dont think I'd even have thought Rowan and Julietta seemed anything like Romeo and Juliet! Beautiful girls name, stick with it.
If you are at all worried, introduce them as Julietta and Rowan if you need to.

Sonnet
Linet

Soozikinzii · 12/09/2022 13:53

Etta is quite popular as a name in it's own right here up North anyway ! Marietta , Nicoletta , Rosetta sound nice with Rowan xx

TempsPerdu · 12/09/2022 14:25

Harriet would work I think? I’ve also really liked Linnet ever since reading ‘The Children of Green Knowe’ as a kid.

DD is Greta, with the nn Ettie, so a less obvious nickname can sometimes work well. But equally Etta works fine as a stand-alone name - it’s not a ‘cutesy’ option like some others (Tilly/Matilda springs to mind), so would age well without needing a ‘grown up’ longer name.

ChnandlerBong · 12/09/2022 15:05

Rowan and Julietta is fine in - don't think Romeo and Juliette would occur to most people esp if she's to be known as Etta

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/09/2022 21:15

Rowan and Linnet or Violet go very well - nice nature theme, so either of them nn Etta

Otherwise Elisabetta, Colette, Henrietta/Harriet. Esther at a push.

Marietta is alright but v frilly. Greta is ok but a bit German barmaid.

Loretta is too Country and Western. Rosetta makes me think of the stone/language tapes.

Rowan and Julietta is too too close to the play, and thus v odd for siblings

You get a lot of restaurants called Olivetta, and also it just sounds like a brand of olive oil/kitchen appliance, so no

There was a Harrietta at a baby group I went too she was a lovely baby but they called her "Harrietta" in full

Marcipex · 12/09/2022 23:16

Arrietty

DotDotDotDotDot · 13/09/2022 02:06

Cassia is another lovely nature name, could be nn Cassie or Cass. I like Hazel too, sounds lovely with Rowan.
