I’m back for more help please! Thoughts on the following as a sibling for Iris:
Anthea
Maia
Julia
Other suggestions welcome. Dispute these choices I often prefer a name that doesn’t end in vowels. I’d like something kind of simple and not too try hard if that makes sense. A Greek or goddess name would also be cool in terms of ‘matching’ Iris-though not that important. Don’t want anything that sounds too old lady revival as I think it’d sound a bit too retirement home alongside Iris. Thanks!

I really like Anthea, Julia as a close second

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 15:39

Ooh cool, I thought that one would be panned… It’s my favourite too I think.

Maia is nice. I’m not at all keen on the others. They sound dated to me.

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 15:43

Thanks!

Julia. Anthea is too much Generation Game for me, and not even sure how you would say the M one.Myer, Meeyer?

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 15:56

Myer. Thanks

I prefer Thea vs Anthea sounds more modern (love Thea!)

Like Maia
Not keen on Julia sorry

Aquamarine1029 · 11/09/2022 16:06

Farrah

blameitonthecaffeine · 11/09/2022 16:11

I like Maia best but I think both Anthea and Julia go better with Iris. Anthea is very unusual. I think I'd go with that one.

Or, other ideas:
Astrid, April, Bronte, Caitlyn, Evelyn, Erin, Faith, Fearne, Grace, Giselle, Hope, Hazel, Hannah, Isobel, Juliet, Jocelyn, Kate, Kathryn, Lillian, Meredith, Miriam, Nadine, Niamh, Robyn, Saffron, Summer, Taryn, Zeryn

goldfinchonthelawn · 11/09/2022 16:18

I like Maia. Dislike Anthea (though I love Thea so not sure why - maybe Anthea turner doesn't help) and I don't like Julia much. I've met some horrors that put me off the name.

Pemba · 11/09/2022 16:23

Julia is gorgeous, classic and underused.

I really like Maia/Maya too, but it has been very popular for a while.

Anthea is quite nice but I don't know if we're ready for a revival yet. I think of Anthea Turner and Anthea Redfern (The Generation Game, 1970s).

mathanxiety · 11/09/2022 16:30

I think Julia goes best with Iris. The names have a lovely 1949s vibe.

Anthea will always be Anthea and Brucie to me.

Maia is too boring and blah alongside Iris.

How about:
Alethea
Alicia
Jocelyn
Margot

mathanxiety · 11/09/2022 16:30

1940s vibe

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/09/2022 16:31

Athena ?
I like Julia and to a lesser extent Maia but am less keen on Anthea.
Xanthe
Nemone
Helena

AdaColeman · 11/09/2022 16:31

Julia is my favourite from your list.

Other ideas...
Gaia
Romilly
Diana
Dido

HuntingoftheSnark · 11/09/2022 16:33

I love Anthea. It reminds me of The Five Children and It - and another E Nesbitt book, can't recall which. I also really like Julia as a close second.

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/09/2022 17:54

I like Julia and think it goes very well with Iris, both elegant names.

Or maybe

Jocelyn
Inez
Frances
Elsbeth
Caroline
Marianne
Meredith
Clio
Adela
Philippa
Claudia
Cassia
Selina
Serena
Penelope nn Nell
Selene (Sell-ee-nee)

I wouldn’t use Maia/Mia/Maya just because it’s so overused and 3 different ways to say it.

Anthea I think is a bit lispy.

PortalooSunset · 11/09/2022 18:13

Ariadne.

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 18:18

Thanks all. From peoples suggestions I like Diana, and Gaia but don’t think I’d use either of them.

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 18:20

And also Helena.Marianne and Miriam which I suggested on my previous thread but were quite divisive.

I'm a fan of all your original choices as well as Julia .

Youweremybrotheranakin · 11/09/2022 18:30

What about Juliet instead of Julia?

I also think Eliza would go well with Iris ❤️

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 18:41

Thanks for the suggestions- I’d certainly like Juliet if I heard it on another child, but I find maybe a bit trendier the Julia which I’m less keen on.
Not so keen on Eliza.

Julia is lovely. I also thought of Zoe and Xanthe which I think have Greek origins.

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/09/2022 19:44

Anthea - I'm not a fan. Would you consider Anwen or Athena, Althea or possibly Dorothea?

Maia - it's ok just a bit meh to me

Julia - I'm not a fan again sorry

I know two Iris'. One has a sister called Emmeline and one has a sister called Xanthe

Something like Lorelei or Evangeline would go nicely too
