Can’t find ‘the one’

Don’t know baby’s sex yet, but I’m having trouble finding a girl name I like.
I have 2 girls already and found their names a struggle, I’ve never found a girl name that’s stood out to me but I’ve always had a long list of boys names I love.
The girls names I do like are Charlotte, Alice, Ellie, Isabelle, lily and Amy. But I don’t love any of them if that makes sense. Plus there are tons of girls names I can’t use. If anyone can help I’d appreciate it!
also some advice about the boys name please, it’s a sentimental name that I’ve loved since I was a child and if we have a boy that will be his name. However my ‘best friend’ had a son 2 years ago and used the name. She knew how important it was to me so I was hurt but accepted it doesn’t affect me directly and moved on. Now I’m worried it will seem weird to use the same name even though I ‘owned’ it first. What would you tell her/other people if you went ahead and used the name? Tia

I would call your child by the name you want, regardless of how many other children are called by that name.

Use the boy’s name.

Chloe?

Imissmoominmama · 10/09/2022 18:57

Or Elizabeth. Possibly due for a revival!

Kite22 · 10/09/2022 19:01

I would say Elizabeth fits your 'type' of name, but might become very popular now.

What about
Catherine
Josephine
Heather
Caroline
Victoria

Re the boy's name - just use the name you like. All you have to "tell people" is what his name is.

INeverSawAPurpleCow · 10/09/2022 20:40

Cecily, Aude, Iona.

Custardandcreamp · 10/09/2022 20:53

Thanks all
Do names like Isabelle and Ellie age well? I just can’t see for myself an adult with those names being taken seriously. I know Ellie can be Eleanor or Elizabeth but I’d prefer a name that doesn’t get shortened into a nickname.

Isabelle definitely does. I know several older ones. I don't know any older Ellie's, but why not? I can visualise an old lady called Ellie.

MissBPotter · 10/09/2022 21:40

If you don’t want a name to be shortened then only really Alice, Amy or Lily work from your list. All nice but others that might work with a classic sort of style are:
Rose
Lucy
Beth
Kate/Katy
Eve/Eva
Annie/Anna
Holly
Jane
Emma
Betsy
Zara

regarding the boys name, just go for it. No one owns a name so just use it, your friend’s son isn’t the only person with that name so go for it.

Kite22 · 10/09/2022 22:10

but I’d prefer a name that doesn’t get shortened into a nickname.

You probably should have put that in your opening post.
Plus, of course, that rules out Charlotte and Isabelle from your list.

Custardandcreamp · 10/09/2022 23:48

Sorry to clarify I meant chosing a longer name such as Katherine but her only being known as Katie for example, nicknames are fine in general

Tess, Sophie, Tillie, Amelie, Kitty.
Go with the boy name you like.

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/09/2022 12:42

Use the boys name you want. Lots of kids have the same name.

Other girls ideas -
Lois
Zoe
Marianne
Juliet
Imogen
Frances
Annalise
Annette
Zoe
Chloe
Elise nn Lily or Ellie

Of your girls’ list they are all very popular other than Amy. I would personally avoid Lily and Ellie as full names - they aren’t great for an adult.

Mumofgirls2017 · 11/09/2022 22:07

Re friend it depend how unusual the name. If top 50 or so I’d use it and say nothing. Also depends how much you see your friend I think.

names wise for girls
