What’s everyone’s thoughts on the name Dahlia? I love it but being a few ways to pronounce it is the only put off - will she be correcting people her full life?

I like it as Dah-lee-ah
vs Day-lee-ah

I stay in Scotland and know 2 baby Dahlias and both pronounced Dah-lee-ah
but I know the British way is typically DAY lee ah

@Mummytobe333 , there have been several threads on the name. I'd say it as dailya or dahl-ya. There are easier names.
Aunt Dahlia in PG Woodhouse was like the flower.
I can't unsee dahl as in tarka dahl.

Aww I have a Dahlia!

I'm in England and went for Dah-lee-ah.

Most people get it right, the ones that pronounce it incorrectly first time soon get it so that hasn't been a big deal at all to be honest.

She loves her name, only one in her school Smile

steppemum · 09/09/2022 12:23

should be Day- lia, same as the flower. Very pretty

Can't stand the other way, sounds horrible

ChagSameachDoreen · 09/09/2022 18:30

It's a lovely name but it makes me think of the Black Dahlia Sad

londongirl2701 · 09/09/2022 20:03

I love this name it was almost my little girls name, I personally prefer Dah-Le-Ah I think it sounds abit less harsh and more pretty than Day-Le-Ah - either way it's a beautiful name

Same, that was my first thought, terrible true crime case.

Fullmoonagain · 09/09/2022 22:45

It's a lovely name, Lia ( Leah) for short.

Howdoyoulikeyourtea · 09/09/2022 22:48

I know two Dalia without the h, pronounced Dah le a
Withbthe h I would pronounce it like the flower Day le a

DillDanding · 09/09/2022 22:50

I also think of Black Dahlia.

And everyone will pronounce it Day-lia.

MrsBungle · 09/09/2022 22:57

I love the name Dahlia pronounced either way!

MolkosTeenageAngst · 09/09/2022 23:05

I’d say it dah-li-a. I thought that was the usual way and didn’t realise that the flower was pronounced day-li-a, must have only seen it written down before.

Dahlia444 · 09/09/2022 23:07

Great name 😎

Needmorelego · 09/09/2022 23:11

I've only ever said it as Dah-lee-ah (as a persons name and the flower). Never heard it as Day-Lee-ah.
I know one Dahlia. She is about 9 years old now. My first thought when she was born (she is a sibling of one of my daughter's classmates) and I heard the name was "wow what a beautiful name".

ElizabethBest · 09/09/2022 23:13

Black Dahlia for me too

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/09/2022 12:49

I think I prefer Daria , and it doesn’t have any pronunciation issues

jrt2022 · 11/09/2022 14:47

Black Dahlia here too! Very grisly, famous, unsolved murder.
