Emmanuelle - beautiful name. Alas the film remains uppermost in DH's mind.

Ayupchuck1 · 06/09/2022 20:10

Aoife - looove the sound AND spelling but worry she would forever be spelling/pronouncing her name to everyone (we’re in England)

MrsSamR · 06/09/2022 20:12

Monty and Bertie but second baby is another girl!

Thiswayorthatway · 06/09/2022 20:16

Boris 😁

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/09/2022 20:18

Kerenza (or Carenza). I had a boy and now I'm too old.

romdowa · 06/09/2022 20:20

I love the name , Nathaniel but I've a very thick irish accent and it just sounds awful in my accent 😭

Mischance · 06/09/2022 20:23

I do not understand why people reject names because there is another in the wider family. Two of my GC have the same name - it is not a problem for anyone. Both sets of parents loved the name, so they both chose it.

clara

my niece is Cara and my bf has a Lara

KellyGrayson · 06/09/2022 20:28

Love Alice, but I had a cousin named Alice who died under very tragic circumstances. I know it would just be a reminder to that side of the family.

BeanyBops · 06/09/2022 20:28

Lavender, Gabriel and Ambrose. You could say I've peculiar taste. But no more kids for me! My daughter has an extremely unusual name.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 06/09/2022 20:29

Not CAN'T use, but a few of my childhood faves have become much more popular: Arlo, Emily, Esme, Isla, Nathaniel, Sophie, Tobias.

Evadne and Leda: unfortunate histories of sexual violence for the most famous bearers of these names.

MoniJitchell · 06/09/2022 20:41

Loved both Luke for a boy and Skye for a girl. Couldn't use either....last name Walker.

Calyco · 06/09/2022 20:44

Joshua-cousin's name
Gabriel-another cousin's name
Lydia-brother-in-law's sister's baby who died of SIDS

Cactusk · 06/09/2022 20:50

I really liked Eleanor but our surname is Rigby.

ExPatbythesea · 06/09/2022 20:51

Finn/Finley - my ex used it first!

@Ayupchuck1 I have an Aoife. We live in Europe and she gets called ‘oh-fee’ at every appointment.
Hopefully we’ll be back in Ireland by the time she’s at school!

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 06/09/2022 20:56

Emmeline

It makes me sad that We didn't use it

germsandcoffee · 06/09/2022 21:01

Billy for a girl but with their father's last name she would sound like a rodeo rider 😩

37GoingUnder · 06/09/2022 21:12

I loved Axel but was overruled on the basis it was too ‘out there’. We chose something more conventional which I do like but I think Axel would have suited DS beautifully.

Because as someone with the same name as my cousin, I had no intention of doing the same to my DD, therefore ruled out any name already used within my family and closed friends.

Leafblow · 06/09/2022 21:14

Carrie, I always liked it but my surname is a noun so it sounded ridiculous- like a command,
Like Carrie Swans or Carrie Potts.

Same for Violet or Scarlet- nice names but it sounds like a decription

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/09/2022 21:15

My friend always wanted an
Isla - but then she married a man with the surname White. She now has a Francesca

Emsicle24 · 06/09/2022 21:23

Ruaraidh, as DH hated it and also most people not knowing how to pronounce or spell it 😬

LaMadrilena · 06/09/2022 21:25

I wanted Penelope. But DH pointed out that her schoolmates would shorten it to Pene, which is "penis" in Spanish (we're in Spain). I think it would really have suited her 😔

I did point out Penelope Cruz, but I guess the rules are different for stunningly beautiful film stars!

hotdiggetydog · 06/09/2022 21:27

Adolf

Hopeandlove · 06/09/2022 21:27

No one can pronounce my sons name - old very old English name - he loves it and by 4 he was correcting everyone and my one year 4 those that try to shorten it get told off immediately by him
