Thoughts? Does is sound a little too old-fashioned?

I like both, but especially partial to Valerie. It's a lovely name!

BestCatMumEver · 06/09/2022 17:06

I’ve never liked either, sorry. And I really dislike Val as a shortening it’s so dated.

Stichintime · 06/09/2022 17:08

Love Valerie, but think Valeria sounds like a disease.

EleanorShellstrop28 · 06/09/2022 19:47

I recently watched a film with a Valerie and it struck me that it's actually a very beautiful name. I'd not thought of it before, it always seemed stuffy and dated, but now I suddenly appreciate it. Sure she might end up as a Val - not great - but Valentina is suddenly very popular and nobody mentions the val thing.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/09/2022 19:59

I like Valerie, I think it’s likely to get revived soon.

I guess it’s just the Val thing…

One of my aunts is Valerie, NEVER Val. Put your foot down while you can, then it will be up to her.

Ewisa · 07/09/2022 11:57

I like Valerie, I was also considering this name If I had a girl:-)

SalviaOfficinalis · 07/09/2022 12:01

Valerie - very nice, I’d go with this.

Valeria… reminds me of Valerian, and not sure how to pronounce… does it rhyme with Malaria? Or is it Valarie with an “a” on the end?

KirstenBlest · 07/09/2022 14:07

Valerie seems like a 1950s name, Valeria sounds like a disease or infection.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 07/09/2022 23:10

Awful. Can't stand Val.

DramaAlpaca · 07/09/2022 23:29

Valerie is gorgeous. I don't like Val, though. Valeria is a bit much.

jesusjoan · 07/09/2022 23:38

Valeria sounds like something you'd pick up in Holland & Barrett or something you really wouldn't want to pick up - venereal disease

Valerie is OK but sounds a bit dated

GinghamChicken · 08/09/2022 09:53

My Mum's name is Valerie (always Valerie, never Val).
As well as sounding so pretty it looks incredibly elegant when she signs her name as she was taught to use the Greek E for both upper and lower case.

mogwa · 08/09/2022 22:38

I like Valerie. It's somewhat dated but I find it pretty.

I would expect someone named Valeria to come from Europe, Russia, Latin America etc, because I've heard of this name in other countries but I've never met a British one.

Bubblyinblanch · 09/09/2022 17:03

Hate Valerie. I knew one and she was a dose.
