Has anyone changed their baby's name before a year?

So my baby is 8 months and although I don't dislike his name, I now feel with more certainty that we should have gone for his middle name. Reasons I didn't which now seem silly- his sibling's name starts with the same initial as the name I want to give him. 2. It's a bit more unusual. 3. At the time I just didn't know and I was in the middle of sleepless newborn stage and just went for the name that was safe but now I just want something which I love and is more him. 4. The name we chose was his grandparents and he doesn't really own it. It's such a old man name but not in a cute way like Arthur or Alfie etc.

So, if you did this, did you just do it by deed poll and then tell everyone. He's still young so hasn't started nursery or school obviously but will everyone judge me and think I'm weird?!

I think in your case you do not have to make the choice to legally change his name at all, just call him by his middle name! There's plenty of people who go by their middle name, and this way you can give him the choice when he's older to choose which he likes/suits best.

Thanks @itsgonnabeokay even that seems a big thing as every baby groups etc I will have to say Oh we are calling him (new name) now. Argh I wish I wasn't so indecisive. My mum was so excited when we said the name we went with that it made it really hard to chose the other one and now I regret

We changed our daughters name at 3 months. It is really easy and straightforward to do before they turn 1. My advice is try not to worry about anyone judging you. A few raised eyebrows now is better than a lifetime of name regret. People get over it and move on. I found it unbelievably hard at the time and anguished a lot but now looking back I’m so happy we changed it x

Did you decide, OP? In a similar situation with my DC!
