They’re all lovely names! My favourite is Alice closely followed by Elizabeth.

mathanxiety · 04/09/2022 21:10

All lovely.

Irene is unusual. Would you pronounce it Eye-reen or Eye-reenee?

babynameratings · 04/09/2022 21:16

Eye-reen, that’s the way we pronounce it in our family 😊

Rose - my favourite girls name ever
Elizabeth - because so many options
Irene - unusual but pretty
Louise - I’m off the generation where every other girl had this as part of her name, but it isn’t that common now and it is pretty
Madeleine - I like Maddy
Alice - I just find it a bit insipid

They’re all lovely names! My favourite is Alice closely followed by Elizabeth.

Agree! I'd go with Alice Elizabeth, or vice versa Elizabeth Alice 😊

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 04/09/2022 21:25

Elizabeth is a gorgeous name and has many nickname potentials.

TenThousandSpoons · 04/09/2022 21:30

I like them all except for Irene.

Alice is my favourite followed by Rose.

WaffleAndGelato · 04/09/2022 21:37

I'm liking Irene! Second choice Louise which is due a revival.

Mumofgirls2017 · 04/09/2022 21:38

Alice is my favourite. The others are ok but Irene not ready for a comeback and Louise dated imo.

lightisnotwhite · 04/09/2022 21:38

Irene still sounds old and fusty to my ears.
Louise is nice but utterly insipid.
The others are nice enough and don’t saddle a child with expectations.

pimlicoanna · 04/09/2022 21:46

The only one I like is Rose

wizzler · 04/09/2022 21:46

Love Madeleine and like all the others

TokenGinger · 04/09/2022 22:01

Alice is my favourite, and Elizabeth a close second. All lovely names xx

EntertainingandFactual · 04/09/2022 22:09

Lovely names:
Alice
Elizabeth
Madeleine

Not a fan but nothing wrong with them:
Louise
Rose

Sorry, not keen at all:
Irene
I worked with an Irene, must be in her late 60s now - called herself Rene (pronounced Reenie) same kind of name a Sylvia or Maureen, Myra.

Snugglemonkey · 04/09/2022 22:17

I really don't like Louise. I know far too many. It was very popular when I was young and just feels dated to me. As does Madeleine. I like all the others, particularly Alice.

Katnissx · 04/09/2022 22:20

All really lovely names op, Alice would be my favourite 😊

SleepingAgent · 04/09/2022 23:25

Alice. It's ok, a bit meh, a bit dull. Lots of them around in my area, it's becoming the new Olivia.

Elizabeth. Obviously a strong classic with lots of choice for Nicknames. I think it really needs to suit the child though.

Irene. I know old lady names are chic just now but I don't like this trend. Not for me.

Louise. Pretty, not over used, well due a comeback. I like it.

Madeleine. Lovely. Probably my favourite from this list.

Rose. Pretty but again could just teeter over into the "dull" category. Again needs to suit the child, I always picture Rose as petite and ethereal for some reason. Maybe too many fairy stories.

Kanaloa · 04/09/2022 23:28

I like Irene & Louise the best. They’re pretty in a simple way, and unusual nowadays for a baby. Madeleine I’m not keen on, and I dislike Maddie. Alice is ok but lots of them about. Rose is okay but know sooo many baby Rosies at the moment. Elizabeth is nice, a classic, lots of choices from Ellie to Betty.

DramaAlpaca · 04/09/2022 23:40

My favourites are Louise, Alice and Rose.

Elizabeth is the most versatile of names in terms of diminutives.

Madeleine is pretty but not really my thing.

Irene is interesting and would be an unusual choice.

bubblegumfloss · 05/09/2022 08:54

All are nice but not too keen on Louise.

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/09/2022 17:23

Irene pronounced Eye-ree-nee - is chic 1930s and due to be revived. But deffo not as Eye-reen, which is very caravan in Clacton/ageing barmaid, as a PP on another thread said.

If not then Louise (which is nice enough and the only one not overused other than Irene), or Elizabeth which is popular but is lovely and has has the benefit of about a hundred nns.

Madeleine is quite nice, but you have to be happy with Maddy.

Rose and Alice have been done to death

katielou987 · 05/09/2022 21:27

My favourites:
Elizabeth
Alice
Rose

What about
Alice Elizabeth or
Alice Rose

both sound so pretty and classic without being over done - they are timeless. Congratulations on your baby girl x

Crunchymum · 07/09/2022 12:57

Alice - love
Elizabeth - love
Irene - no
Louise - dated
Madeleine - okay, too associated with the missing child
Rose - my fave

timeforthebeach · 07/09/2022 13:06

In order of preference;
Rose
Madeleine
Alice
Elizabeth
Louise

Don't like Irene though

felulageller · 07/09/2022 13:21

They are very upper middle class!

Alice in Wonderland/ a bit boring (I see the word 'Lice' in it!
Elizabeth There are going to be so many of these when the queen goes. At least there are some nice nicknames.
Irene reminds me of the home and away character. Quite downtrodden compared to the others.
Louise the sound 'loo' just makes me think of the toilet! 'ease' isn't nice to the ear either.
Madeleine McCann. Which is a shame because it's the nicest. I wonder when this name will be ok to use again?
Rose West or Titanic

What about
Alexandra
Augusta
Arabella
Victoria
Adelaide
Serena
Jennifer
Rowena
Meredith
Alicia
Ivy
