I really like Marnie. Have only ever met one - a colleague I worked with about 20 years ago. She would have been about 30 at the time. She was a lovely cheerful, smiley person and I associate the name with her.

I'd pick Marnie purely from knowing about 6,000000 Olivias. :)

Lilacsunflowers · 04/09/2022 20:18

Olivia is soooooo overused

bloominglovelyorange · 04/09/2022 20:18

Newusernameaug · 04/09/2022 20:19

Love Marnie and only ever met one

Marnie - Olivia is beautiful but too popular for me

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/09/2022 20:19

Marina nn Marnie

You want her to have an elegant name like Olivia, but not actually Olivia because the world is drowning in them.

I like Marnie as a nn for Marina, but as a full name it is too nothingy, like Indie or something.

NuffSaidSam · 04/09/2022 20:21

I really like both, but both have been ruined by being overused.

I'd go for Olivia on the grounds that it's now dropping in popularity while Marnie is rising. It also offers a range of lovely nicknames should she end up being one of many. Marnie doesn't really have any nn potential. I like Liv and Livi and Ollie and Via.

I'm biased but Olivia is a beautiful name and classic. Marnie reminds me of sarnie.

I agree with this. Very good way of putting it.

LaLaLouella · 04/09/2022 20:22

I think Marnie is lovely - Olivia is too, but there are sooo many of them....

MrsMop1964 · 04/09/2022 20:25

Not so keen on Marnie. Makes me think of the Alfred Hitchcock film of that name.

mathanxiety · 04/09/2022 21:14

I can't see the attraction of Marnie at all. It rhymes with sarnie and sounds like the uncomplimentary adjective mardy.

Olivia all the way. A lovely name - it's popular because it has a lot going for it.

Marnie

Olivia is not a name I like. Never have

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 05/09/2022 00:16

Marina (gorgeous name); nickname Marnie (lovely nickname)

SemperIdem · 05/09/2022 14:46

Marnie over Olivia. Purely because there are so very many Olivia’s. It’s this generations Sarah, can’t escape it.
