Thoughts on this name for an Italian baby boy living in the UK?

Or the footballer. But it’s his surname.

Why not just use Roman?

Having been watching old episodes of ER I would say "no" to this one.
(Dr Romano was the character everyone loved to hate. Total arsehole)

Sounds like a pizza variety

It's very old-fashioned and any Italian would associate it with Prodi.
Any non Italian probably with pecorino.
I wouldn't use it unless there was a strong family link.

It will get confused with Romeo. Which is the only thing I can think of worse than being called Romeo.

To be honest, I would assume I had misheard Roman or Romeo.

It means "from Rome". It's as if you would call a child "Londonder". Awful name, sorry.
Romeo is.uch better.

To me it just sounds like an Italian/Latin name. I wouldn't think anything of it. I have no idea about the references other posters have mentioned.
