Thoughts on this name for an Italian baby boy living in the UK?

It’s a cheese?

NoSquirrels · 01/09/2022 19:00

Cheese!

Or the footballer. But it’s his surname.

Why not just use Roman?

Needmorelego · 01/09/2022 19:01

Having been watching old episodes of ER I would say "no" to this one.
(Dr Romano was the character everyone loved to hate. Total arsehole)

ZenNudist · 01/09/2022 19:01

Sounds like a pizza variety

Geamhradh · 01/09/2022 19:02

It's very old-fashioned and any Italian would associate it with Prodi.
Any non Italian probably with pecorino.
I wouldn't use it unless there was a strong family link.

Ha! I immediately thought of him too

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/09/2022 22:38

It will get confused with Romeo. Which is the only thing I can think of worse than being called Romeo.

ISeeTheLight · 01/09/2022 22:41

Romano - no.
Roman - okay

felulageller · 01/09/2022 22:46

Dr romano.

He was really nasty but it was still sad when he got killed by a falling helicopter ( a year after another helicopter chopped his arm off).

DiscoBadgers · 01/09/2022 22:49

Ray Romano and Dr Romano.

To be honest, I would assume I had misheard Roman or Romeo.

All I am envisaging is this...

Romano?
WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 01/09/2022 22:52

It just sorta sounds like a Mafia-type name! ^

This is where my mind went too 😂

NotABeliever · 01/09/2022 22:59

It means "from Rome". It's as if you would call a child "Londonder". Awful name, sorry.
Romeo is.uch better.

adhdforme · 01/09/2022 23:31

I'm sure one day he will play well with his little brother Pecorino 🧀 😂

FayCarew · 02/09/2022 07:52

It sounds like a pizza or cheese

mogwa · 02/09/2022 12:56

To me it just sounds like an Italian/Latin name. I wouldn't think anything of it. I have no idea about the references other posters have mentioned.
