Hi there, DD2 is due in 2 weeks and I feel no closer to choosing a name for her. The top picks at the moment are the above:

Thalia
Selena
Reese

Selena is the favourite for DH (and DM)
Thalia is my favourite and Reese is thrown into the mix as it was the name my DF had chosen for my had I been a boy (spelling Rhys instead), DF died when I was 12 and I like the idea of using a name he liked and since this is our last baby, I won't be using it for a boy, though the name isn't my usual type, it has really grown on me and I love the sentimentality of it.

The middle name will be Elizabeth after my grandmother, I would happily use this as a first name but it was vetoed by DH.

Could I please have opinions on these or alternatives if possible, feeling as though we'll never settle on a name as DH has vetoed nearly all my choices!

I love Selena, Thalia is OK (a bit medical?)

I don’t like Reece but as a middle name it’s grand. I’d spell it properly as Rhys though, it’s no different to having a surname as a middle name

Selina Elizabeth Rhys is really lovely

Otherwise

Serena
Susannah
Theodora
Tamara
Tessa
Cassia
Estella
Francesca
Marianne
Claudia
Adela
Allegra
Isadora
Eloise
Clementine
Verity
Cecily
Sanchia

Seren?

jacyjwcasalimali · 24/08/2022 20:16

@Luredbyapomegranate thank you so much for your input, I do love Selena and DH is fully set on it so glad to hear it's a good option. Also like the idea of incorporating Rhys as a second middle name, though can see DH trying to veto it as he's not a fan of multiple names 🙄 love your suggestions, many of which were ones I've suggested to DH already, clearly DH is my issue here!😂

@sammysal I live in a very heavily Welsh speaking area so naming her Seren in my mind is equal to naming her Star in English, it just doesn't seem right, though it is a very popular dog's name here! A lovely name if you live elsewhere but not ideal in my area

I only like Selena from your list. It is beautiful.

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/08/2022 20:21

Thalia - It nice but I much prefer the very similar Talitha, I just think it has more to it and Tallie is a cute NN

Selena - beautiful classical feel but unusual, I really like it

Reese - compared to Thalia and Selena it's just ugly. I wouldn't want to be a woman called Reese

YesitsBess · 24/08/2022 20:23

Is Thalia pronounced (soft TH)aaaalia or Ta-lee-ah?

mangodreams · 24/08/2022 20:24

Personally I'm not keen on Selena at all.
I really like Thalia. I also like Reese (love Reese Witherspoon) but that could work as a middle name: Thalia Reese sounds nice.

Mummytobe333 · 25/08/2022 05:06

I love Thalia 😊

Lemonsyellow · 25/08/2022 06:21

I like Selena and Thalia. I think you’ll have pronunciation issues with Thalia, which may or may not bother you. I’d use Reese as a middle name.

I completely agree with this. It is very popular, a bit recent, terribly twee, and seems a better name for a first pony.

Reese is awful. Thalia - is it Thahl-ya or Tahl-ya? Selena is ok.

I really like Selena. It's beautiful. Reminds me of the late singer Selena Quintanilla. I like Thalia in theory but I think you'd get a lot of questions about the pronunciation. My first instinct is to pronounce it ta-LEE-a (like the Mexican celebrity Thalia) which might not be what you're aiming for. Reese doesn't appeal to me at all.

DaisyJoy1 · 25/08/2022 14:42

I like Selena best, it’s absolutely beautiful. Thalia is nice, but not as nice as Selena. I’d add Reece as a middle name: Selena Elizabeth Reece Surname

frenchie4002 · 25/08/2022 16:15

Reese is lovely

GreenClock · 25/08/2022 22:21

I’m with your late dad on the name Rhys for a boy - I love it - but I’m not a fan of Reese for a girl. It would look like you were a Witherspoon fan. This is no bad thing (she’s ace) but people would jump to that conclusion rather than assume that the name Rhys or a variant thereof is meaningful for family reasons iyswim

DramaAlpaca · 25/08/2022 22:23

Selena is by far my favourite.

Well, you could reluctantly concede Thalia for Selena but say the deal is Rhys goes in as a middle name. Strategy..
