This is a greek name I love but I am not keen on the nick names Ria, Ella, or Ellie. Can you think of any cute nick names?

Are you actually Greek?? Cos that’s a mouthful of a name

DuneFan · 23/08/2022 13:59

Definitely Elfie

gingerfume · 23/08/2022 14:00

I am 1/8th Greek, have a Greek name, and have lived in Greece for a while. I love the name Liberty but don't like the nickname Libby or Bertie so ruled it out. I love the meaning of the name freedom and I think Eleftheria is beautiful but if I can't find a nick name I like I think ill have a look at other Greek names.

Effie reminds me of Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games.

I quite like the name Thera or Theria - what are your thoughts on these?

Love Eleftheria! The brilliant Eleftherios Petrounias uses Lefteris as a nickname, and Google suggests that Lefteria is used for the female form.

gingerfume · 23/08/2022 14:01

I also quite like Elfie and Fred

If you lived in Greece fine.
In UK I would be expecting Nellie the elephant comments.

Sorry.

Milknosugarta · 23/08/2022 14:14

How about Thea? Simpler but pretty. And it means Goddess.

Christmasbird · 23/08/2022 14:20

Elfie
Elfine

What’s 1/8th? Is that great grandparents? In which case I’m 1/8th several places.

Purpleforthewin · 23/08/2022 14:41

Thea

Leafy3 · 23/08/2022 14:41

Elf

Choconut · 23/08/2022 14:46

Awful, just makes me think elephant. Imagine if the poor child was over weight, they'd go to town on her with that name.

Derbee · 23/08/2022 14:51

Sorry, but is it not Eleutheria? Meaning liberty?

CoalTit · 23/08/2022 14:57

Do you have any English- or Spanish-speaking great grandparents who would justify just naming her Ria? That's a word that already exists in English, and a beautiful name that wouldn't cause her half as much annoyance as she goes through life.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 23/08/2022 14:57

That spelling is very close to Elephant, young children are likely to misread it and its possible that 'Elephant' will stick instead which wouldnt be good. The spelling Eleutheria would be better or what about Calliope which is a Greek name I love.

JimmyShoo · 23/08/2022 15:00

Whatever you decide her nickname will be, it’s likely that it will change when she gets to school.Neither of my children get called at school what they’re called at home.

My guess is she’ll become Elle or Ellie.

whatatanker · 23/08/2022 15:00

I know someone with this name!

She’s known as Tia. In fact, I didn’t even realise that was her full name until recently. She’s an incredible woman with a highly successful career. I do sometimes think, though, that when she signs off messages etc, her nickname could be confused with the abbreviation ‘TIA - thanks in advance’

Do still really like Tia as a nickname for it though.

fallfallfall · 23/08/2022 15:08

Lefty
