Are there any names that you just can't imagine on a baby?

Each to their own but I just can't picture a baby Frank. It seems such a harsh sounding adult name for a baby especially a newborn yet there have obviously been a lot of baby Franks but somehow I have a mental block when picturing it.

Does anyone else feel this way about a name?

I was totally boggled when people began using Alfie, Noah, Esme, Ivy, but now they are completely mainstream.
It’s just a generational thing. I’m sure Linda and David will make a comeback eventually.

I know 2 brothers under 6 called Malcolm & Derek.

I have been fairly astounded at the Esme comeback. When DS2 was born and if he was a girl I put forward Esme thinking it was quite original. But yesterday I and the DCs were on a (half full) national express bus coming back from holiday and two little girls unrelated to each other were both called Esme. Both DCs also have one in their respective classes of under 20. (Ds1 is 13 and DS2 is aged 11)

You're all incredibly unimaginative. All those names are currently unfashionable but they'll come back

Exactly. I'm sure our parents or grandparents couldn't have imagined a baby Lily or Alfie or Elsie.
In another generation or so names like Margaret, Colin or Trevor will probably be considered very vintage and cute.

All those 1950s -1970s names aren't old enough to have acquired grannie-name chic yet. My name has been listed in this thread.

Sandra
Christine
Tracy
Michelle
Helen
Trevor
Roy
Gary
Peter
Mark

I know of a young Peter, Mark and Helen - while not used in as huge numbers now I think those names are considered "classic" enough that they will never totally go away (since they are Biblical and Classical origin).

Also wouldn't be surprised if there are a few young Sandra or Christine's about still as they have slightly more fashionable sounds and cute nn options (Sandy, Christy/Kitty) - although almost certainly Cassandra or Alexandra and Christina will be more used.

Agree on the others though!

Yeah, there are always a few little Peters about (I work in a primary school).

I don't know any children called Louise or Christine, but know a Louisa and a Christina. About a decade ago, I taught a child called Raymond.

David is another of those names that never quite goes away, like Peter. There aren't as many now as there were in the 1960s/70s/80s, but as a PP said they are considered to be classic names because they're Biblical.

Some very cool, arty people we know, have just called their baby Deborah. I think this name, along with others from the 50s/60s will become very fashionable within the next 10 years.
