If we go with Isobel we’re potential thinking Blossom or Primrose as a middle name but not sure of a sparkly middle name if we go with Isabelle? Help!

I love Primrose though.

It goes really well with Isobel (or Isabelle).

This is the route I want to go down! I think we’ll end up using Isabelle. Surname is Graham!
love Fleur but a friend is using it :( please help!

Not necessarily "sparkley" but I like these:

Isobel Fleur
Isobel Florence
Isobel Matilda

Isabelle Fleur
Isabelle Florence
Isabelle Matilda

I think Isobel is a more interesting spelling but Isabelle is more feminine and may fit better with some middle names - also hard to tell which spelling is best without knowing surname to complete the picture!

Flora or Florence?

CaffiSaliMali · 22/08/2022 08:30

Seren? Welsh word for star used as a modern Welsh name. The en is like the en in pen and hen and the first e has the same short e sound too.

Isabel Seren and Isabelle Seren both look and sound nice.

@Kghl03

Okay here's a few more... tried to prioritise a cohesive rhythm and sound so not sure if they'll still be to your taste 🤍 if you prefer the spelling Isabelle, like those names, and love Fleur, then I think going down a gently French route will be the best option. Most of these are French or anglicised French names (with the original French in brackets) with a couple of other wild cards thrown in there as well.

Isabelle Marie Graham
Isabelle Sophia Graham
Isabelle Felicity (or Félicité) Graham
Isabelle Noelle (or Noèle) Graham (you'll love or hate the "Elle" repeat)
Isabelle Cordelia Graham
Isabelle Cosette Graham
Isabelle Camélia Graham
Isabelle Violet (or Violette) Graham

The names Michelle and Natalie are relatively common but if you committed to the French spellings of Michèle and Nathalie they become more fitting with the overall name so do have a look for French versions of names as well (and make your decision about whether to go for ones that need accents or not).

You can also consider some Italian or Spanish sounding ones, but their spellings of Isabelle are Isabel and Isabella respectively so consider if you would prefer name origins to match or contrast.

Isobel is a Scottish spelling, which I only just learned but you may already know, so if you go with that spelling it might influence the middle name options too.

Let me know if you want any more ideas!

In case it's not known/obvious as it doesn't have an accents, "Violette" ought to be pronounced vee-oh-LETT, as opposed to the English pronunciation of Violet of VY-lett.

I don't want to be patronising and assume you don't know these things already; so if you're not sure if the French changes the pronunciation at all just ask me or have a Google/YouTube.

My sister called her son Gunnar which is Nordic and ought to be pronounced GOO-nar but the they didn't think about it and just pronounce it GUH-ner and it bothers me no end (not that I have or ever will say anything, it's their child and name choice, so it's none of my business).

Leafy3 · 22/08/2022 09:16

Is it the sound or the meaning you like for Fleur?

If you specially want a flower name then apart from the obvious there are names like:
Flora / Flori
Blanchfleur
Camellia
Delphine
Posy

For French names
Alouette (lark)
Amya (beloved)
Anais
Manon
Marie

Of course, you can just choose Fleur - it's a middle name for you so shouldn't cause any ruction with your friend!

Kohby190 · 22/08/2022 09:39

Swan 🦢
I know a little girl with this middle name and I adore it.

Whataretheodds · 22/08/2022 09:57

Middle name will hardly be known/used so no issue if a friend has the same.
Every girl of my generation at school seemed to have Rebecca, Claire, Elizabeth or Louise as a middle name (if not first name). Never an issue.

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/08/2022 10:14

I think 2 syllables sounds better so you might do better with Flora than Fleur anyways

Isabel Flora Graham
Isabel Florence Graham
Isabel Sylvie Graham
Isabel Lucy Graham
Isabel Jasmine Graham
Isabel Clara / Sara / Lara / Zara Graham
Isabel Frances Graham

Or 3
Isabel Vivienne Graham
Isabel Jessemy Graham
Isabel Marianne Graham
Isabel Caroline Graham
Isabel Claudia Graham
Isabel Susannah Graham

Hoping some of those work/spark a thought. I would avoid middle names that start with an L because it will blend into the first name xx

fufflecake · 22/08/2022 11:40

Blossom and primrose aren't sparkley- is it names like that you want?
