Thoughts on this biblical girls name? According to naming sites it means both 'Dominant woman', and also 'calf' which I'm less keen on, but love the sound! Pronounced with an emphasis on the first syllable.

My aunt was called that, but was known as May.

It sounds a bit like a brand of old fashioned nightwear to me.

DillonPanthersTexas · 18/08/2022 11:56

It sounds quite masculine to be honest for a girls name, and possibly also a Dr Who adversary.

DaisyJoy1 · 18/08/2022 11:58

I've never seen Dr Who so not sure if that's a good or bad thing 😂

Not keen - sounds a but Game of Thrones to me.

GrandSlamFinalee · 18/08/2022 12:15

I really like it, but then I’m Spanish and it’s not an unusual name over there. Had a couple in my class at school over the years and my mum has a friend called Dámaris as well.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/08/2022 14:10

I quite like it

I presume the OP means Damart, but no one under 70 would get that ref.

I'm 61 and got it, we used to have damart pjs. Grin
I quite like the name; it does have a sort of GoT or sci-fi vibe but that's not a terrible thing.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 18/08/2022 14:22

It is an underwear/ lingerie brand, not damart.

Yika · 18/08/2022 14:26

I adore this name, it’s very unusual and pretty.

Orphlids · 18/08/2022 15:13

I really love it. It somehow manages to sound very pretty but strong at the same time. I’ve only ever met one Damaris, and she was wonderful - beautiful, intelligent and charismatic. I’d love to meet a little Damaris. I’d assume her parents were interesting and educated types.

Cindie943811A · 18/08/2022 23:24

The name was very popular 2 to 3 hundred years ago and I’ve wondered why it has become almost obsolete as it’s very pretty and yet strong.
Start a trend OP, the name deserves to become more popular.
BTW apropos the meaning Rachel means ewe and Deborah means bee.

Enko · 18/08/2022 23:31

I think I like it. Is it said like Dah. Maaris. Or more like Dar MaR his?

Never heard it before (unusual for me I love names)

BrightBlueFlamingo · 18/08/2022 23:44

Like it, really unusual but I like it!

elQuintoConyo · 18/08/2022 23:47

I love it, nice strong name, not frilly. Emphasis on the 'dam' at the beginning, short A.

MarmiteCoriander · 18/08/2022 23:52

I read it assuming it was a male name. I too also thought of Damart- despite being early 40's! If you like it- there are far worse options.

peaceinourtime · 19/08/2022 00:38

Damaris the university nurse graduate from Getting On. Or Dam a is is Kim would call her.
