Like Now. I know two pronounced like that.

ChloeKellyIsAnIcon · 18/08/2022 06:03

Boat

ApolloandDaphne · 18/08/2022 06:11

Rowan - like the argument
Rohan- like the boat

I am Scottish also. Rowan seems to be used mostly for girls in my experience and Rohan for boys.

Underthemoon1 · 18/08/2022 06:14

The same as the tree - rhyming with go in England, now in Scotland.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 18/08/2022 06:20

rowan girls, boys,trees boat

rohan (boys only)r'oh han. Much prefer this.

Plumpurplepink · 18/08/2022 06:43

Google pronunciation, could have made this a quick thread.

pinklavenders · 18/08/2022 07:08

Both boys and girls that I know pronounce it to rhyme with Now.

Rohan is Ro-han

SycamoreTall · 18/08/2022 07:25

Like now in Scotland apparently; row your boat everywhere else.

Statistically, (considerably) more common for boys in England&Wales but more common for girls in Scotland.

Hidingawaytoday · 18/08/2022 07:27

Row as in row row row your boat 🛶

No because it depends where you or future child may live.
As PP pointed out in Scotland it's mainly pronounced Row to rhyme with how

Not the one I know. The h is not pronounced at all. It is like Rowan with the row pronunciation.

Summertimesunshineandfizz · 18/08/2022 07:39

Row as in boat, for boy, girl, tree. Lovely name and one of my favourite trees.

Summertimesunshineandfizz · 18/08/2022 07:40

Same

Gut · 18/08/2022 07:40

I'd pronounce it the correct way.

LoveKingGary · 18/08/2022 07:48

I'd pronounce it the correct way

For England, Scotland or somewhere else?

pitterypattery00 · 18/08/2022 18:06

For girls and the tree, row is pronounced like now (I'm Scottish). Rowan is much much more commonly used for girls than boys in Scotland.

For boys, I'd probably assume the English 'row as in boat' pronunciation. (I've never met a Scottish male Rowan).

Eliode2000 · 19/08/2022 15:26

ro-an

RosemaryJuice · 19/08/2022 23:35

As others have said, in Scotland it’s pronounced like row as in argument. The tree is also pronounced like that here.

It’s a lot more common as a girl’s name here but I did know a male Rowan and he also pronounced it like row as in argument.

eyekogirl · 19/08/2022 23:45

Scotland here too

Boys : boat pronunciation
Girls: argument pronouciation
Tree: same as girl

weegiemum · 19/08/2022 23:52

I'd pronounce it Row (like row a boat) for a boy

And Row (like a fight, so like a Rowan tree) for a girl.

MarthaMayWhovier · 19/08/2022 23:53

I'm Scottish. There was a boy called Rowan at my school and I never once heard anyone pronounce it to rhyme with Now.
I pronounce the name and the tree to rhyme with go.
I've clearly failed at being Scottish.

feisfeisfeis · 20/08/2022 00:12

Scottish. Girls and tree to rhyme with now. Boys either way.
