Are Erin and Iris too similar???

Thinking of Iris as a potential name if baby #2 is a girl. We already have an Erin - do you think the names are too similar or do they sound ok together? It wasn't until I wrote the names out that I started questioning it (I think it's the look of the names, with them both being four letters and having 'ri' in the middle, rather than the sound..!)

I have two kids with similar names like that, mine have same sound at the end rather than the middle and the annoying thing is they can't always tell who I'm shouting for as they hear the second syllable which is similar sounding.

You shouldn't have the problem. Another thing to consider, although it might not bother you, but, if you have more children, would you then want them having 4 letter names? I would have done so it then limits choices (just because once there is a pattern, my brain would itch with a child not in that pattern, weird I know 😂). As it happens we stuck at two so never faced the issue.

I can't get my head around how they could be seen as similar. Other than they have the same number of letters which is a non-issue. If you like both names I would go for it.

Not at all, I actually have a friend who has daughters named Erin and Iris and it’s never occurred to me at all. Lovely names

I love them both and reading the title of your thread I don't think they are similar but, same as a previous poster, when I say them repeatedly I mix them up....so a new suggestion is Eris and Irin 🤣

I think they’re lovely together. I know what you mean, as they’re such short names and there’s an overlap of half the letters, but they don’t feel too similar. The same applies to Alice and Grace, but I know two sets of sisters called those.

They are nothing alike.

I don't think they are too similar sounding but must have a similar vibe and you have great taste as they were our last 2 options for namimg DD!
