Matilda or Madeleine?

What do you like better?

Madeleine. It’s lovely and reminds me of the little French girl cartoon.

Matilda, it's strong and feisty.

Matilda. A classic name, but both are nice tbh.

I prefer Madeleine. I think we've had peak Matilda now and I find it rather clunky.

Yes there's McCann connotations but that's passing as time goes on. I think it is a beautiful name and deserves a come back.

Matilda - I wanted for my girl but our close friend has Matilde (live in Portugal) and for same reason living in Portugal can't have madeleine too much association for me - it's a beautiful name tho

Madeleine. Matilda has been so popular recently that it feels tired and a bit passé to me. Madeleine feels a more elegant choice.

Madeleine’s beautiful. I’ve never really liked Matilda as a name, and I don’t like Tilly. Both have excellent children’s book namesakes though!

Madeleine is classier, makes me think of Madeleine Stowe.

I've always thought Matilda is an ugly name, although I love the Roald Dahl character.

My DD would have been Madeleine had it not been for the poor McCann girl.

Matilda wears plaits and a dirndl. Madeleine has a sleek bob, wide leg trousers and works in a gallery in Paris.
