Middle name Emma

My husband’s sister is called Emma and would like our daughter to have Emma as a middle name. I really like the name Emma so happy to go with it, but we’re struggling to find a first name that goes with the middle name Emma. Any ideas?

Pretty much anything goes with Emma! But I think it needs to be a longer name for it to flow well.

Victoria Emma
Annabelle Emma
Isobel Emma
Amelia Emma

It's a pretty name. I think it goes with so many other choices that it's hard to suggest. What kind of names do you like ?

I'd avoid other short vowel names like Lara or Mia.

Rachel
Bethan
Courtney
Alexandra

Lots of things I think..

Florence Emma
Charlotte Emma
Beatrice Emma
Lois Emma
Frances Emma
Verity Emma
Caroline Emma
Josephine Emma
Cecily Emma
Harriet Emma
Abigail Emma
Alexandra Emma
Antonia Emma
Cecilia Emma
Caitlin Emma
Phoebe Emma
Sylvie Emma

I think other 2 syllable names ending with an a aren’t going to work, but other than that it’s pretty open

Beatrix Emma
Imogen Emma
Genevieve Emma
Willow Emma
Alexis Emma

Something not ending in an a (becomes remma), and not ending in l (becomes lemma), and not something with an M in.

Pick a name you like and that goes with the surname. Emma is really nice

How many syllables does your surname have and what does it start with?

Pemba · 17/08/2022 12:10

I think any first name ending in 'a' would not flow well with Emma as a middle name.

Thanks everyone! A couple of you have suggested names that are on our shortlist but I was doubting that Emma went well with them. Somehow it sounds better when others suggest it rather than yourself

I think Charlotte Emma is perfect. Both names have a Jane Austen vibe and flow well together. Or maybe Harriet Emma.

It's a bit of a tricky one to get right really. Anything ending in a vowel sound like Clara, Lucy, tends to merge with the 'E' of Emma, so doesn't flow well. And the majority of currently fashionable girls' names do end in a vowel. You also don't want anything beginning with an 'E' so Elizabeth Emma is out, too alliterative. Similarly you don't want a lot of 'm' s or 'n' s.,aa it merges into the sound of Emma. Abigail Emma, Bridget Emma, Rachel Emma would work. Probably I'm over thinking it though.

I think a name ending in -y or -ie would go well with the pretty name of Emma.

What about
Lucy Emma
Marnie Emma
etc
