What is everyone's thoughts on the name Coral?? Is it too soon for a come back, too old fashioned? Or does it fit in with the other nature themed names like Willow, Skye etc?

I like it although it makes me think of old ladies (along with Pearl, Beryl ,Ruby ) or the actresses Coral Atkins and Coral Browne. I'm middle-aged so I'm not up to speed with current trends. I do work in primary schools though and haven't met a Coral yet.

Cora 😃 coral is not too old now it's a lovely name.

If beryl comes back please message me. My grandma was beryl and even she never thought it would make a comeback

Coral sounds weird when people say it. Kind of like an American person saying Carl.

MassiveSalad22 · 16/08/2022 05:26

I never even knew it was an old lady name. I knew a coral once who must be in her late 20s now. I just thought of it as a thing-name eg Tree or Grass. But now I’m a grown up I can see the appeal, although it is also a betting shop isn’t it?

WildCherryBlossom · 16/08/2022 05:50

I don't find it especially old fashioned. I think the betting shop is the main issue with it really. In the U.K. at least.

I know a Coral who has auburn hair so it seems quite fitting.

ReeseWitherfork · 16/08/2022 05:54

Wow, love Coral! What a beautiful name. It’s clearly my taste so I may be bias, but I think it’s got a similar vibe as Willow for sure. See also: River.

wibblewobbleball · 16/08/2022 06:01

Lovely!

ShirleyPhallus · 16/08/2022 06:05

I know two baby corals! So not too old at all. I also know two opals which is along the same lines

pinklavenders · 16/08/2022 06:28

I dislike it a lot. Was it ever popular? I've never met a Coral ever.

PotatoFamily · 16/08/2022 06:34

I had it on the shortlist for my DD and she’s now 19

Pinkywoo · 16/08/2022 06:35

I like it, and I also know a Coraline.

pilates · 16/08/2022 06:55

I dislike it, sounds frumpy to me

Titsflyingsouth · 16/08/2022 07:16

The only one I ever met would be about 30 now.

Not keen tbh. It doesn't sound granny chic to me it just sounds dowdy.

mogwa · 17/08/2022 10:20

Was is it ever that popular in the past? I don't know any older ladies named Cora. I've only met one Coral who is in her 20s. I've also met a Coralie.
I don't think it's dated.

ButterRose · 17/08/2022 11:43

Thanks for the feed back everyone 😊 it's my grandmother's name and since we have always been close I've always sort of liked it but was unsure of how others would see the name my mum and sister think it's an old lady name but it seems it's neither here nor there for most people so I might use it yet...at the very least it'll stay on the list

I love it - don't think it's dated, but not overused either.

loosebutton · 17/08/2022 15:53

Beautiful

MissyB1 · 17/08/2022 15:56

I like it, Dh has a colleague called Coral, she’s an amazing Doctor and single parent, a very inspiring person.

magdamaple · 17/08/2022 18:36

I love it!
Was on my list, the betting shop put me off.

I think it's a beautiful name though.

Penguinsaregreat · 17/08/2022 18:37

I think it’s nice. I don’t see it as old fashioned at all. I’d use it op especially as it’s your grandmother’s name.

awwbiscuits · 17/08/2022 18:39

I had a coral in my year at school and I'm early thirties. I like it. The only thing that puts me off is the way it sounds like Rick in the walking dead saying 'Carl' !

StarlessSea123 · 17/08/2022 19:11

I like it, for me it has nature associations. I don’t know any older people with the name but know a young child called Coral. I think it’s pretty and would age well with the child.

carefullycourageous · 17/08/2022 19:13

I think it is a nice name - I can see not reason not to pick it if it has special meaning for you.
