Hiya all,

I was wondering which name is better for a boy, Jariah or Kerri?

OP posts:

SycamoreTall · 15/08/2022 12:10

I would assume Kerri was a girl's name.

AppleBottomRats · 15/08/2022 12:11

I agree, I would assume Kerri was female.

How do you pronounce Jariah? To rhyme with pariah?

crossstitchingnana · 15/08/2022 12:16

I knew a male Kerri. Suited him.

Greensleeves · 15/08/2022 12:20

Kerry is an Irish boys' name (spelt Ciarrai in Irish). Not come across Kerri apart from Kerri Strug who is a female American former gymnast.

ShadowPuppets · 15/08/2022 12:26

Agree Kerri is going to be assumed a girl’s name.

I know a little Jeriah and I think I prefer that spelling to Jariah but both are nice.

PineappleWilson · 15/08/2022 12:32

Ceri is the welsh version, and a boy's name. I know one, he spends a lot of time being mistaken for a woman. I'd go with Jariah.

sanityisamyth · 15/08/2022 12:50

My pony was originally called Kerry (by the breeder as all foals that year had to begin with the letter K). I would still assume Kerri was a girl. Don't like either name.

vitahelp · 15/08/2022 12:55

Jariah. Only because I think of Kerri as a girls name.

BlueChampagne · 15/08/2022 15:22

How about Cary (as in Grant)?

Krakinou · 15/08/2022 15:28

I like Kerri, but prefer the spelling Kerry. It sounds like a down to earth, kind person name. I’ve known a male and a female Kerri so reads unisex to me.
Jariah, I’d be unsure how to pronounce it and sounds a bit religious though I’m not sure why.

KirstenBlest · 15/08/2022 16:00

Ceri/Keri/Kerry is unisex. It is usually used for girls, but there are some male ones.

KirstenBlest · 15/08/2022 16:01

Looked up Jariah and it seems to be a girl's name.

Hobbesmanc · 15/08/2022 16:22

My old headmaster was called Kerry although this was way back before it was a popular girls choice. I think the i ending makes it look more feminine

Is it Ja-riya or Ja rea? I think Jerome has a similar feel and might be a good alternative

MissyB1 · 15/08/2022 16:36

Don't like Jariah at all. I know Kerry can be a boys name (and I would definitley spell it with a Y), but people will assume you've had a girl.

I like pp's suggestion of Cary.

Ravenclawdropout · 15/08/2022 16:40

Kerri I would assume to be a girls names. Reminds me of a gorgeous baby boy I met who was called Kendall (years ago) it was already considered a girls name in the US where I live and I don't think the mom realized. As adults we can be very out of touch with what people are calling babies and how quickly naming trends can change.

The other name I would need to know how to pronounce.

Ravenclawdropout · 15/08/2022 16:41

Yes Cary is a good compromise and a nice name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/08/2022 22:52

Jariah

Kerri is awful, on either sex, but most people will think it’s a girl.

I do prefer Josiah though
