Jaze or Jayze

To be pronounced to rhyme with maze?

I prefer Jaze as it's simpler but my DP thinks Jayze looks more solid as a name. We don't like traditional names so James is off the menu. We liked Jay but it's a bit overdone and more boring.

*Jayze’

PeekAtYou · 14/08/2022 18:04

People will assume it's pronounced Jay-Z

If you wanted Jay-Z then I'd be advising a name starting with J followed by a middle name starting with Z even though Z is zed rather than zee in the UK

Windbeneathmybingowings · 14/08/2022 18:05

I read this like Jay Ze. Is that not what you were going for?

Go with either but be prepared to hear HUH? a lot.

rocketfromthecrypt · 14/08/2022 18:10

If it's got to be one or the other, probably Jaze - because it's spelled like maze and that's the sound you want. There are so many lovely names out there though OP.

viques · 14/08/2022 18:10

So you don’t like the name James. That’s fine, but just because you don’t like one traditional name doesn’t mean you have to label your child for his entire life with a name you have just made up. Get going on those baby name generators, traditional name lists, names beginning with J lists to find something that doesn’t shout “we is younique parents with no empathy or imagination innit” .

ReeseWitherfork · 14/08/2022 18:12

Jaize. Definitely.

bevelino · 14/08/2022 18:13

EmmaH2022 · 14/08/2022 17:54

Neither
he will be called Jay Z all his life.

This

The poor child will be ridiculed for sure.

Whadda · 14/08/2022 18:16

Or Jay-Zed?

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 14/08/2022 18:29

I read jayze as Jay-Z. It also makes me think of Jeyes Fluid, I'm afraid.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/08/2022 18:29

Dear God no. Is there not even a tiny part of you that thinks this is a feckin stupid name (actually it’s not a name).

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 14/08/2022 18:29

What about Jayden? You could shorten it to Jayz?

cactusses · 14/08/2022 18:31

Yes I thought maybe Jayze would be read like Jay-Z. I get that lots of people won't like Jaze. I don't mind Jace actually although that sounds more like a shortening of Jason.

Being honest- they are both awful! Sorry OP!!

I know a lovely Jace who is just Jace, not Jason.

SundayTeatime · 14/08/2022 18:34

To be fair, there is a Jaze who’s an Irish football player. His dad is a Jason. Jaze is a better spelling than Jayze.

LittleBearPad · 14/08/2022 18:35

They are awful

VladmirsPoutine · 14/08/2022 18:38

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/08/2022 18:02

Tell me you are joking.

It’s a made up name with ‘naughty boy’ written all over it. People will make negative assumptions about him before they even meet him - they shouldn’t but they will. Call him Joss or Joel or something.

I wonder how you arrived at the connotation of 'naughty boy' Confused
I don't particularly like the names either but how does it evoke a child who'd be assumed to be naughty?

FiveDollarMilkshake · 14/08/2022 18:38

classic names, great choice either spelling you go for it!

MaryBlighthouse · 14/08/2022 18:41

I think this is a joke, but if not, you do realise that ‘unique’ names are the new ordinary and boring?

mocktail · 14/08/2022 18:42

How about Jabez? It's a biblical name.

Molly499 · 14/08/2022 18:48

It might work in chavvy areas like parts of Essex but anywhere else would be awful. Why condemn a child to this?

ReadtheReviews · 14/08/2022 18:50

The op.might be American, in which case - whole different level of acceptable made up names. I know a 2 year old called Kensington for example. And Sloane is popular, which is the worst name I've ever heard.

TwinklingFairyLightz · 14/08/2022 18:53

Whadda · 14/08/2022 18:00

What about Keith?

Good, solid name. Brian sprang to mind too. Or perhaps Colin.

Puppypads · 14/08/2022 18:54

Just call him Chav and be done with it

LittleBearPad · 14/08/2022 18:55

Or Nigel. That’s unique these days
