Saw this name recently and thought it sounded lovely for a girl. Not seen it before. I don't have any babies to name but someone might like it.

Naming your baby after a cocktail, however delicious, is very déclassé

louderthan · 14/08/2022 07:53

No. Just call it Bloody Mary and have done with it.

Leeloo1233 · 14/08/2022 08:57

This is a very popular name in some Nordic countries and I would love it if it wasnt for the drink..

Ravenclawdropout · 14/08/2022 09:00

An unusual choice.

I would immediately be reminded of a number of Baby Showers here in the USA where we would be throwing these down our necks at the shower brunch. There could be worse associations.

It's a bit mimsy

bluberries · 14/08/2022 09:32

It's so nice but no, not as there's a drink

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 14/08/2022 09:33

Makes me think of champagne and orange juice cocktails.

Krakinou · 14/08/2022 10:15

It does sound quite sweet but I think the drink rules it out for a human. Great cat name though.

PrimroseWharf · 14/08/2022 10:22

I could imagine a sassy pomeranian wearing the name well

Hobbesmanc · 14/08/2022 10:23

It's also a tree as well as been a Bucks Fizz type cocktail. Can't see it catching on lol

viques · 14/08/2022 10:24

Mimosa, sister to Margarita, Cosmo and Manhattan…….

Itsnotwhatitlookslike · 14/08/2022 10:26

In 11 years she may come home in tears after having classmates chanting “Buck’s Fizz, Buck’s Fizz, Buck’s Fizz,“ at her.
Kids can be brutal.

Forconfessingonly · 14/08/2022 10:27

It was a tree before it was a cocktail though.

most people would think of the cocktail

FiveDollarMilkshake · 14/08/2022 10:37

Dreadful. So many beautiful names out there too

LunaLights · 14/08/2022 10:39

Do people really not google names they like to check out meanings, usage, etc?

Weefreetiffany · 14/08/2022 10:45

For a pet, adorable.

EveSix · 14/08/2022 10:45

Errr... I had no idea it was a drink?
OP, it is a beautiful flowering tree with the most fragrant clusters of powderpuff soft yellow flowers. It grows wild in woodland in India where is is magical and almost intoxicating to walk through, but it can also be grown as a garden ornamental tree here in the UK.
It was on my list too; it is a lovely name.

brookstar · 14/08/2022 10:50

It's a drink.
That's all people will think when they hear it

JennyForeigner · 14/08/2022 10:51

I dealt with a Mimosa once. She was f*ing awful.

isitaline97 · 14/08/2022 10:53

I'm pretty sure mimosa is also a strain of weed.. in case you didn't know 🤦‍♀️😂

oranmore · 14/08/2022 11:08

I think Mimosa is lovely but a bit too American for my tastes. I'd name your baby "Buck's Fizz" instead. So much more British 😉

I knew it was used in America for what I'd call a Buck's Fizz, but am surprised that so many people now seem to think it's just a cocktail and have never heard of the tree.
It sounds quite pretty to me but I suppose if you've never heard of the tree, it would like calling a baby Martini (which may also have another meaning that I don't know, I guess).

whatausername · 14/08/2022 11:27

Reminds me of those stories you hear of mothers who name children after their favourite drug. It's a bit...Mommy's a drinker but has the money to make it more palatable socially

I did know that, but only because I used to live in South America where it grew in the garden. We called it the Sensitive Plant as its leaves immediately droop if you touch them.
I don't think so many people in the UK would have come across this plant as a weed here; I'd imagine it takes quite a bit of cultivating. So it's might not be quite such a face/palm inducing idea as it may seem to you.
