Saw this name recently and thought it sounded lovely for a girl. Not seen it before. I don't have any babies to name but someone might like it.

It was the name of the ship that carried the Welsh to Patagonia in 1865.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 14/08/2022 11:39

It's a tree. How about Oak, Elm or Sycamore

Marluuu · 14/08/2022 11:43

Naming the child after a drink might give others the impression that said drink had something to do with their conception. I think I once read a similar story about a child named Brandy

WildCherryBlossom · 14/08/2022 11:44

I really like it. I think of the tree. Such a pretty tree.

No more babies for me but I might store it away for a future pet.

WildCherryBlossom · 14/08/2022 11:44

Willow and Rowan are popular so why not Mimosa.

Gunpowder · 14/08/2022 11:45

LaMarshallin I think isitaline97 meant drugs rather than garden weeds 😁

whataloadabullocks · 14/08/2022 12:05

I love mimosa trees. I had two, then a very harsh winter killed them offSad
Didn't realise it was a cocktail drink.
It's a name that would definitely get shortened, but I like itSmile

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/08/2022 12:08

I prefer Bellini nn Bella

Or just go for the classic Chardonnay

NO

Errr... I had no idea it was a drink?
OP, it is a beautiful flowering tree with the most fragrant clusters of powderpuff soft yellow flowers. It grows wild in woodland in India where is is magical and almost intoxicating to walk through, but it can also be grown as a garden ornamental tree here in the UK.
It was on my list too; it is a lovely name.

This. I knew it as a tree long before hearing a Buck's Fizz called a mimosa. I love it and think you could get lovely nicknames from it too.

FayCarew · 14/08/2022 12:12

A bit too unusual, sounds like an affliction or infection

CiderWithLizzie · 14/08/2022 12:15

I thought of the tree too and I like the name.

BeeEllEyePeePeeEye · 14/08/2022 12:28

It's butter here in Portugal...

Really?
Oh, okay - mimosa's a name for the weed you smoke, then?
Fair enough; I haven't heard it in that context. No one else mentioned up until then, so perhaps I'm not alone in my lack of knowledge. I probably won't use it for that just in case not many other people have heard of it either.
It's also a tree, a garden plant/weed and a cocktail - I'm more 🤦‍♀️ that the majority of people have only heard of the cocktail.

SeanChailleach · 14/08/2022 12:54

I only ever heard of the beautiful flower and my grandad recalling the mimosa blossoms from his childhood home. I thought it was well-known as a flower.
I've never heard the word used for an alcoholic drink. That's like Margarita - it doesn't stop the name being used.
One of those names where the response to it tells you a lot about the respondent.

Harsh!

It's the name of an alcoholic drink. That's a fact.

No need to have a dig at people for pointing that out.

autumnboys · 14/08/2022 13:05

There’s a restaurant near me called Mimosa.

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/08/2022 13:07

It has a pretty sound but yes it's a cocktail

BlueKaftan · 14/08/2022 13:10

I prefer Sex on the Beach.

You sound very pretentious

Moonface123 · 14/08/2022 13:11

l had no idea it was the name of a drink, am only familiar with the flower meaning. l like it.

☝️one of those were the response to it tells you that the respondent is lacking in humour.

Ah, so all of us who have named the common cocktail are clearly alcholics then! 😂🤣😂 Pretty obvious it is also a plant, but you asked for opinion, no need to be grating because you have not received the response you wanted.

UseOfWeapons · 14/08/2022 14:09

When I lived in Italy, International Women’s Day was marked by the giving and receiving of mimosa. Lovely name, and I’ve known only one woman with it, who was commonly known as ‘Mimi’.

seven201 · 14/08/2022 15:48

I don't like cocktails and I only think of cocktails when I hear that word. It's a prime name for school teasing.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 14/08/2022 15:54

Good suggestion, OP , particularly of someone is having trouble making their mind up.

I'll get my coat.
