How would you pronounce Eugenia?

I understand that the Yorks pronounce their daughter’s name differently from the usual way. Apparently her name is from one Queen Victoria’s daughters/granddaughter.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nobody knows.

I thought we'd find out when she got married but even then each newsreader had a different pronunciation.

And in any event the princess' name is Eugenie. So finding out how she pronounces her name doesn't tell you how to pronounce eugenia, necessarily.

It's a mystery OP.

You-j’ai-nee-a

Justcannot · 11/08/2022 01:08

You-hen-ee-ah. With a glottal h. But I only know Spanish and Romanian Eugenias.

I would say 'You-ZHEE-nya'

The York woman is Eugenie, the French spelling of the name.
I believe she calls herself YOU-jen-ee.

In French it's pronounced UH-zhen-ee.

Depends on the language because this name is used pretty much throughout Europe. But I'm assume you mean English. I would say you-JEEN-ee-uh for Eugenia. Like Eugene (English pronunciation) with a feminine ending.

For Eugenie, I would pronounce it the French way because I learn French and the name is way more common in France in than the UK. But I believe the princess pronounces her name YOU-zhuh-nee.

Yeah I've heard Beatrice call her YOU-jen-ee. Regarding Eugenia - I've heard it pronounced You-genie-ah and You-jen-ia

KeepingTheWaterOut · 19/12/2022 22:10

You-zhen-ia

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/12/2022 10:21

I’d say Eugenia YOU-jain-ee-uh in the UK - with the emphasis on the first syllable and hardly any gap between the last two

I think Prin E uses the French pronunciation which is zhey than jain (?) - but then she is Eugenie without the uh ending
