Thoughts on Elias Joseph

I keep being drawn to the name Eli (I don’t know why, I just saw it in a book of names and it’s stuck in my mind) I know it’s popular but as a teacher, where I live I have never met or taught one which is a positive. I then saw the name Elias which I think is lovely.

I mentioned it to my mum earlier and her instant response was ‘it’s a bit biblical’ which hadn’t even crossed my mind… I’m not super religious but I really want to use the middle name Joseph I know that obviously has religious links too.

So I guess my questions are - do you like Elias Joseph and is it too biblical?

I like Elias and also Elijah both of which can shorten to Eli if you like that, personally I do think Elias Joseph sounds a bit biblical but really it doesn't sound bad or offensive and just because your not religious doesn't mean you can't use those names if you like them and/or they mean something to you.....I would say if you like it then use it

I like Elias very much. Teamed with Joseph it is quite biblical, but nothing wrong with that and they do go well together.

I’d think you were very religious. It would be too biblical for me, but also old testament names are trendy at the moment and Joseph has been used so often that Joe is just a normal name so if it doesn’t bother you, then I think it’s fine.

Eli has never been in the top 100 names in E&W so I really wouldn't let it's popularity put you off.

It's a nice name, and I prefer it to Elias (is that pronounced Ee-lee-as?)

I really like Elis/Ellis - I think they are related to Elias but don't have the same religious feeling (to me at least). Also prefer the eh rather than ee sound.

My children both have biblical names, first and middle, Joseph being one of them.
I’m not religious at all.
Not my kids names but Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are also in the bible but no one mentions the religious connection.

I know loads of Eli's now!! (I have an Eli too and I swear they are ten a penny where I live!).

I might start using Elijah a bit more as that is less common..

ofwarren · 08/08/2022 14:34

I think it sounds really nice

Robyn188 · 08/08/2022 14:40

I think Elias Joseph is a lovely name. I also love Eli. My DS has biblical names, simply as they were the names I was drawn to and liked the most (I'm also not religious)

Eli is quite popular - short for Elias, Elliot, Elijah, Eleanor etc We know loads atm
