It’s really pretty but there’s an absolute tonne of 9-13 year olds called it.

Those of you who are called Isabelle or have children called Isabelle, do you ever shorten it? How do you spell it? I am Issy but most are Izzy or Izzie. My parents reasoning was that I don't have a Z in Isabelle so why would I have it in Issy

My friend’s DD is Isabella, always called Bella.

But Isabelle has a z sound while Issy rhymes with Chrissy. I’d go for Izzy.

I think it’s lovely but I prefer the spelling Isabel or Isobel. It’s popular for a reason - because it’s nice! I’d much rather be called Isabel than Gladys or Phaedra or the other ridiculous names that people suggest on here.

My DD is 3 and she knows lots of girls called Isabelle/Isabella.

She doesn't know anyone called Primrose.

True but then Isabelle should be spelt with a Z. I think all variations of spelling Isabelle and Issy are lovely though. It is a beautiful name (I may be biased though 😂)

It's a lovely name. It is well used at this point, but that's largely because it's a name that a lot of people like.

I always think 'boring' is a weird thing to say about a name. How interesting is any name? How interesting do you want a name to be?! I can't say I have ever met a person and thought about how interesting or not their name is. It's just their name and then you get on with finding out whether the person is boring or not, that's the bit that matters, not how creative their parents were at naming them.

Really? I find certain names very boring and unmemorable eg I know sooo many adults called Steve, Andy or Clare...

On the other hand, if I meet someone new called, say, Antonia or Orlando, I think 'what an interesting and memorable name'.!!

I remember how, growing up, I always wanted to call my future daughter Isobel (which wasn't at all fashionable in the 80s and 90s). I wouldn't use it now because yes, it's done to death. I mean, if you loved it anyway, I would say "Go for it, there's nothing inherently wrong with a popular name," but the fact that you posed the question suggests that you also find it overused.

We have an Isobelle and she is 10, she prefers it shortened to Belle. I think it's a beautiful name :)

I prefer Isabella, but it’s a nice name. Yes, it’s popular. Maybe because it’s nice?!

My kids are 11 and 9. Both are invited to parties this month, one for an Isabelle, 1 for Isabel. It's my name too and I wasn't keen as a child because it seemed no-one was familiar with it and it was different, but as an adult I'm happy with my name.
