Are we condemning him to a lifetime of When You Say Nothing At All jokes?

The Destroyer for me too.

RockinHorseShit · 25/07/2022 10:45

No, I know 2 & both Asian, so it never occurred to me

SirChenjins · 25/07/2022 10:46

Yes I do - but I don't imagine anyone under a certain age will

REP22 · 25/07/2022 10:53

Yes, Keating or the centaur off Harry Potter.

Or possibly an instruction to your granny in a lifeboat - "Row, nan!"

bloominglovelyorange · 25/07/2022 14:27

@verie
Ronan is a nice name it's a shame that RoMan and RoWan are now so popular as the name Ronan will sort of get a bit lost in 2022 amounts seas of Romans, but would have been fine a few years ago. Roman is the number 1 top fastest rising boy name, had risen hundreds of places to now be top 30 and still rising up charts. I know about 10 baby Romans

MissyB1 · 25/07/2022 14:41

Ronan O Gara - the reason I started watching Rugby!

Wanted to name ds Ronan but Dh wouldn’t agree😡

quietnightmare · 25/07/2022 14:43

Yes. 🤣

SparkyBlue · 25/07/2022 14:53

No I wouldn't but I I'm in Ireland and it's a very common name here

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 25/07/2022 15:57

In the UK he probably is The Most Famous Ronan. Shame that he's such an irritating example of the genus.

In Ireland everyone knows 27 Ronans so he doesn't have the monopoly there.

Horological · 25/07/2022 16:04

Only people of a certain age will associate the name with him.

I think of Ronan Farrow.

APurpleSquirrel · 25/07/2022 16:11

Enb76 · 25/07/2022 10:40

I'm of an age to remember Ronan Keating but actually what comes into my head is Ronan the Destroyer

Same!

chilliesandspices · 26/07/2022 10:06

Weepingwillows12 · 24/07/2022 22:02

I hear "O'Gara" which shows my age and sporting interests 🤣

Me too!

SummaLuvin · 26/07/2022 10:28

I'm a massive Swiftie so my first thought is the Taylor Swift song called Ronan.

Mittens1717 · 26/07/2022 18:23

No but I'm Irish and it's a very common name here

Jacketandbeans · 26/07/2022 21:28

It wouldn't put me off using it. Who cares if people think of Keating, it's not like using Adolf or something and his generation won't bat an eyelid. I think it's a nice underused (in the UK) Irish name.

bitelover · 27/07/2022 11:16

Sort of, but at the same time, it's a normal name in the Irish community. And anyway, nobody in your child's generation will care about Ronan Keating. He's not exactly a classic like the Beatles or Elvis.

Enko · 27/07/2022 12:48

Yes. But after a while that will go and just be your son. I don't think there will be jokes about when you say nothing at all. And it's a lovely name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/07/2022 23:05

no!

It's a nice name. Lots of similar names (Reuben, Rowan, Roman) around right now though

Confusedteacher · 27/07/2022 23:13

I think it’s a lovely name and have taught a few, so it doesn’t automatically make me think of Keating.

As an alternative, have you considered Conan?

DancingUnderTheLights · 29/07/2022 09:43

You biased people by putting it in the title so now I'm thinking of him but to be honest I don't think I would have made the connection. It's not a big deal anyway. He's not going to be known with his peers.

SavingsThreads · 29/07/2022 10:00

His friends absolutely won't know who that is.

Ronan Keeting's son was on love island this year and none of the contestants had heard of his dad.

Friffle · 29/07/2022 10:04

Ronan Keating will be aggrieved that so many people think he's a has-been!

'I think you'll find I'm Ireland's premier chanteur and my legend will live on through the generations!'

brokengoalposts · 29/07/2022 10:14

I do but I've just said Ronan to my 2 DC who are 20 and 16 and they don't. They said they've heard of Boyzone and know the songs but didn't know it was them that sang them and certainly couldn't name any of the members. Go for it.

alotoftutus · 29/07/2022 23:05

I do, but grownig up I don't think his peers would have a clue - just the parents, and does that matter if you live the name

RustyBear · 29/07/2022 23:09

I think of the villain in Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St Mary's, Clive Ronan.
