Are we condemning him to a lifetime of When You Say Nothing At All jokes?

Yes.

Tigertigertigertiger · 24/07/2022 21:41

yes

theshadeofgreen · 24/07/2022 21:41

Absolutely. Sorry 😩

LarryTrotter · 24/07/2022 21:42

I do! But I was a DIE HARD Boyzone fan
RIP Steve 💔😭

Not sure about about a lifetime of jokes though. I don't think many kids growing up now will really know who he is.

verie · 24/07/2022 21:43

Ah well.

I hear Point, or O'Rahilly, but I'm getting on a bit.

Allmarbleslost · 24/07/2022 21:45

Yes, sorry

Winetastic · 24/07/2022 21:47

I was a big boyzone fan, but it wouldn't enter my head to be honest. I know quite a few Ronans though. It's a lovely name. I'd use it myself if we didn't have a close family member with the name.

20viona · 24/07/2022 21:47

Yes

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 24/07/2022 21:52

Yes, sorry. I don't even really know who he is but I think it. What about Rowan? Or Rory/Rhoari (I think that's how it's spelled)

ClownSchool · 24/07/2022 21:56

I would think Keating too but younger generation are probably more likely to think of this fella. Ronan the Accuser (Guardians of the Galaxy).

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/07/2022 21:56

Sorry- I do 😬

DramaAlpaca · 24/07/2022 21:59

No, but there are plenty of Ronans in Ireland.

pitterypattery00 · 24/07/2022 21:59

No! I love the name Ronan. It was my first choice of boys names but my partner wasn't keen unfortunately. I was friends with a Ronan at school who was lovely, and have met other Ronans since so I don't associate the name with Ronan Keating at all. I think it's a much more commonly used name in Ireland/Northern Ireland/Scotland than in England?

Cric · 24/07/2022 22:00

Massive Boyzone fan here 😊 my friends son is called Ronan and I absolutely don't say keating... when we talk about him, it doesn't cross my mind. It is a lovely name

MintyGreenDreams · 24/07/2022 22:01

Yes

ofwarren · 24/07/2022 22:02

Yes but I can't imagine his peers will

Weepingwillows12 · 24/07/2022 22:02

I hear "O'Gara" which shows my age and sporting interests 🤣

DisforDarkChocolate · 24/07/2022 22:03

Not at all. He's barely on my radar at all.

Once you know an adorable new baby you don't look at it and think 'Ronan Keating got there first'

JePréfèreLesChiens · 24/07/2022 22:04

My teens haven’t a clue who Ronan Keating is. I was talking about his son being on Love Island a few weeks ago and they both said ‘Who’s Ronan Keating?’. So I think you’re safe to use on a baby now.

I agree they would probably more associate it with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Choopi · 24/07/2022 22:05

No but I live in Ireland so there are lots of Ronans about, I'm more likely to think of Ronans that I know/have known.

Hippopotas · 24/07/2022 22:10

No I think of Ronon Dex from Stargate Atlantis. But I’m a nerd 😂

GreyTS · 24/07/2022 22:12

More O'Gara than Keating tbh but I'm in Ireland and it's a fairly popular name here

ColmanFlamingo · 24/07/2022 22:16

No it makes me think of a boy I once knew... sigh...
I like the name though.

Isn't their a centaur in Harry Potter called Ronan....? Trying not to Google it

mathanxiety · 24/07/2022 22:19

Who under the age of 30 will ever have heard of Ronan Keating?
