What do you think of these baby names?

I am not currently pregnant but we will be on our TTC journey from Septmeber. I have kept a list of baby names on my my phone for years and these are the few me and my fiance can agree on.

Girls: Iona (after the Scottish island), Elise, Adrienne, Elodie, Endelyn (pronounced with the stress on the 'del' - it is a traditional cornish name).

Boys: Alistair, Edward, Edwin, Emmett, Ira

Middles names will likely be Dorothy and Frances for a girl and Frank and Stephen for a boy after loved relatives but we not sure of the order.

Last name is one syllable starting with T.

I know some people think more than one middle name per child is 'too much' but we have decided on two as we will very likely only have the one child so would like to honour relatives from both sides of the family. I have two middle names and it has never been a problem.

I would like suggestions for other potential names but please note I have a stutter and can only say names that start with vowels, S or the Th sound. Anything else, no matter how nice it is, I can't use because I physically cannot say it fluently. ☹

Thanks for all kind and thoughtful replies.

Elise Dorothy Frances

Alistair Frank Stephen

All four of my children have two middle names.

CradleWin · 24/07/2022 18:50

Elise and Edward. Both were strong contenders for my DC!

pitterypattery00 · 24/07/2022 18:51

Some nice names OP. I've never heard of the boy's name Ira. Love Iona and Alistair. Other Scottish names you might like -
Eilidh
Ailsa
Euan
Struan

Other with vowels that I think are nice -
Owen
Evan
Ivo
Annabel
Orla
Una

I've never heard Endelyn before but I think it's lovely, particularly the way it's pronounced, as you explained. (Otherwise it might rhyme with Gwendoline).

HerculesMulligan · 24/07/2022 18:54

I like all of those! Endelyn would be my least favourite just because all of the others fall into the "unusual but reasonably well known" category.

Ira made me think of Ira Glass from "This American Life". He got me through lockdown 1!

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/07/2022 22:12

I like Iona and Elodie; Edward and Emmett

BruceWaynettaSlob · 24/07/2022 23:46

Edward, Emmett, Iona and Elise are the nicest.

Ira makes me think of the IRA.

Girls:
Iona (after the Scottish island) not keen
Elise nice
Adrienne, no
Elodie, really like
Endelyn how bothered are you about EN-del-yn vs en-DEL-yn?
What about Thea?

Boys:
Alistair, bleurgh
Edward, fine
Edwin, less fine
Emmett meh
Ira - rightly or wrong I see IRA
How about Oscar? Issac?

KirstenBlest · 25/07/2022 08:51

Girls:
Iona - depends on the surname
Elise - will get called Elsie
Adrienne - Add-rienne or Ay-drienne?
Elodie - boring
Endelyn - ok

Boys:
Alistair, Edward, Edwin - all ok
Emmett, Ira - not ok

babyjellyfish · 25/07/2022 09:49

Hi ...first baby due in April '23 and we are really struggling with names!!
We have found out it is a boy to try and make it easier..however only name we have agreed on so far is Aari (pronounced RE) and even at that I'm afraid that name is a little too 'out there'..

What do you guys think of Aari for a boy.. and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

We are looking for something meaningful and yet not common.

Thank you!!

OreillyLaura7 · 13/01/2023 14:12

Oops sorry ... I thought I was starting a new post not commenting on this one.. apologies 😞

HoppingAndHoping · 13/01/2023 15:46

Iona and Adrienne are lovely. I also like Elise and Elodie. Although Elise may sound like Alice (depends on the pronunciation. I personally prefer Alice tbh).

Edwin is gorgeous. I also like Emmett. But doesn't it mean ant in Cornwall? Ira and Alistair aren't my cup of tea but they're perfectly fine

mathanxiety · 13/01/2023 16:07

I absolutely love Iona and Endelyn.

For a boy, Ira and Edwin are gorgeous.

mathanxiety · 13/01/2023 16:11

I would place the middle names:

Iona Frances Dorothy
Endelyn Dorothy Frances

Ira Stephen Frank
Edwin Stephen Frank
