I was reading the name Maverick and this Irish word popped into my head. The word means "thoughtful" or "a person who thinks deeply".

Is that pronounced ‘Maverick’ ?

NotTodaySatan654 · 22/07/2022 00:08

Or you could call the baby Goose 😅 sorry couldn't resist. I like the meaning behind the name and you could call him Mav for short :)

Good name for an Irish wolfhound

Thefriendlymoth · 22/07/2022 00:11

is it pronounced Maverick? If so, just go with that instead of making a lifetime of annoying spelling/pronunciation. A quick Google has it mostly appearing in relation to the word ‘mental’ as well (that could just be bad translations though)

JaneJeffer · 22/07/2022 00:12

Don't you mean Gé @NotTodaySatan654?

Somatronic · 22/07/2022 00:16

Where I come from meabhrach means academically smart so I wouldn't be mad on it as a name.

Though Críona means clever and that's used sometimes as a girl's name so I guess it could work!

And Goose is Gé. Pronounced gay. 😛

I didn't know it was pronounced gay haha. You learn something new every day 😅

Meabhrach doesn't really sound much like Maverick.

Though I like the thought of Goose as a nickname for Gabriel now 😀

I'm assuming Goose is a Top Gun reference 🦆👨‍✈️✈ (emoji not quite right 😏 )

I'm sitting in work pronouncing Maverick in accents from up & down the country and I reckon a NI accent might sound like Meabhrach.
Back to work now, too much procrastinating already this morning.

NotTodaySatan654 · 22/07/2022 10:34

Yup I was referring to Top Gun 🙃
