Strong girls names

Not due until Christmas and still don't know what sex baby is but we're sorted in case of a boy but girl name is proving tough!

We don't like the trend for illy/otty/olly ending names, they're just a bit girly, but maybe as nicknames like Ellie for Ellen, then DD could decide herself.

I use 'strong' but not sure if this is the best adjective?! Anyway, suggestions for less girly girls names please!

Oh wow there's loads of fantastic suggestions, thank you. I quite like Grace or Brigid. Love Jennifer and Hannah too. Going to show these to my husband. He has a family tradition of Jane but I just think of 70 year old ladies in marks and spencers!

I love Cerys, is it Welsh?

@CoffeeWithCheese haha! Bet you wouldn't have it any other way! Both beautiful names, was at school with a Robyn and she was head girl and very smart! Funny how such associations stay with you

We chose some traditional Christmas names Natalia and holly. Also have Jane as middle name in our family as it seemed to be a tradition. Maddison was also a popular one followed by peyton, brooke, Holland, everly, Sophia. It was a hard choice for girls. I would definitely not be stuck on names for another girl.

MassiveSalad22 · 20/07/2022 18:59

Harriet means ‘ruler’ 🙌🏻
Always loved Robyn too!

Twizbe · 20/07/2022 19:24

I had a Grace - always think of several strong Grace characters (real and fictional)
I have a Lydia- she’s like a lioness. Middle names of Julianne and one I won’t add.
I think of these as strong and wonderful names:
Bronwyn
Wilhelmina
Emmeline
Josie (I guess that’s short for Josephine)
Harriet
Bryony
Lorna
Julia
Audrey
Lyra
Justine
Francine
Slyvia

We called our daughter Julia which I (obviously) love, principally because it is a strong but beautiful name. When she's being a handful we refer to her as Julia Caesar Grin

It a truly great name 😏
