Hello! I've just found out that we're expecting a little girl today. We're struggling to agree on names so I thought I'd love some suggestions! Older brother is Harrison John and our last name begins with Ing...

Names we love individually but can't agree on: Penny, Mabel, Clover, Olive, Daisy, Ophelia etc. I also love Juniper and less common names. Flowery names are lovely too! We have no ideas about middle names either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations!

You have some time, my advice is to write down anything you (either of you, or both) like/love and pare down the list later. You may go through masses of names to get to a few finalists that you both love - it's normal! I'd also focus on the first name and fill in the middle later.

Some other flowery/botanical names:

Acacia

Heidi

Harrison and Heidi sound perfect

Amdone123 · 12/07/2022 12:23

Congratulations!
I like Clover, Olive, Daisy and love Juniper, Clementine and Martha. I like Penelope, not Penny.

scoutcat · 12/07/2022 12:51

Wow some absolutely gorgeous lists that I will sit down with my husband, thank you!

@Amdone123 I am the same about Penelope/Penny. Husband wants Penny to go with Harrison as a Beatles theme and I think Penelope is a good compromise between. I just think it's maybe a bit of a mouthful with our surname...

Starr?

Penny Lane was named after James Penny, so not really a good association.

Other girls' names in Fab Four songs you might consider :
Anna, Martha, Sadie, Sally, Lucy, Prudence, Lizzy, Rita, Yoko, Eleanor, Mary, Madonna, Maggie, Mae, Pam and Michelle

scoutcat · 13/07/2022 07:41

@KirstenBlest Thank you, we've gone through every Beatles song and don't like any of the other names. We'd be naming her after the song if we did choose Penny, and not the street or the evil man so I think that's ok. Plus Penny is a cute name on its own anyway and I think if we chose Penelope then it would make the connection less obvious unless someone chose to ask.

Harrison and Scarlett
Do you not like Lucy if you want a Beatles connection?

KirstenBlest · 13/07/2022 12:35

@scoutcat , but the Penny was a slave trader

KirstenBlest · 13/07/2022 12:38

You could call the baby Abigail nn Abbey

scoutcat · 13/07/2022 12:45

@emmathedilemma I've taught too many Lucys unfortunately and I also hated a girl called Lucy who bullied me at school haha!

@KirstenBlest The song isn't about him though

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 13/07/2022 12:58

No, not about him, but the street it was named after was named after him.

If they had been a bristolian band who recorded a song about Colston Road, you wouldn't call your child Colston

TreePoser · 13/07/2022 13:00

What about Sky?
(Instead of lucy,)

roarfeckingroarr · 13/07/2022 13:30

@KirstenBlest that wouldn't bother me because it's totally unconnected to the baby - who is unlikely to become a slave trader! Such distant past.

scoutcat · 13/07/2022 13:58

@KirstenBlest regardless, we like the name Penny 🤷🏻‍♀️ why are you trying to debate with me? It's not that deep.

@KirstenBlest read this and then you can be happy www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/penny-lane-beatles-slave-trade-1017377/amp/

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 13/07/2022 14:08

I'm not debating with you, only pointing out that it's not a good association.

Cameronnorrieisabitofalright · 13/07/2022 14:12

I know a Harrison with dsis Ava.

oobeedoobee · 13/07/2022 15:30

Jules ?
Kerry ?

scoutcat · 13/07/2022 20:52

@KirstenBlest did you read the article that showed it was agreed by local historians and a slavery museum that it's not actually named after him? You can relax now.

Other Beatles names are Julia, Jude (both nice), and a bit more tenuous, but Marigold, Mary Jane, Nancy and Lil.

user1492757084 · 18/07/2022 10:03

Harrison John and ...
Daisy Elizabeth
Lyla Rosemary
Arabella Mary
Lola Penelope

scoutcat · 18/07/2022 18:01

@user1492757084 wow 4 gorgeous names! Thank you! Funnily enough my dad and my nephew call her Daisy as they love that name haha!
