Potential nicknames and teasing potential

Hi all. I had a thread a while back about what to name our second son. It was between Linus, Scott, Lennox, Geoffrey, Ford, and several others that were suggested (Dashiell and Rafe were notable contenders).

DH and I have finally managed to agree on Scott Lennox (surname beginning with K).

So as a weird request, could you please tease my unborn child based on his name? I couldn't come up with anything bad, but DH and my dad both came up with thing for DS1 within a week of his birth!

But kids will tease about anything - if not names then physical characteristics. The name Scott is absolutely fine and very unlikely to get tagged with the stuff I came up with.

Thank you! I hadn't considered Snotty or the Scottish ones (which made me laugh), but neither bother me to the point of ditching the name!

Adults might ask him about Charlene (Scott and Charlene were a massive Neighbours couple. Jason Donovan played him) but unless you live in Scotland, I think you're safe.

Nope can't. Seems fine. Kids will pick on anything though.

Where I grew up you were a ‘Scott’ if you were a bit of a loner. As in ‘Scott no mates’. He’s got no mates.

Think that’s very regional though. Yorkshire.

To be honest If someone is going to bully your kid they will find a way regardless of name. I have a top 10 name and kids still managed to bully me.

The only one I can think of is Snotty.

I went to primary school with a Scott and I don't recall any name teasing (to be honest, I can't remember any child being strongly or repeatedly bullied over a name). I'd say Scott is a fairly innocuous name, though it's hard to know what kids might pick up on.

Can't think of anything offensive! A good choice in my opinion!

Do children honestly bully each other about names?

Thirty years ago, we never did. We had all sorts of names - Amit, Snigdha, Sneha, Nana, alongside every permutation of traditionally English names. Nobody teased anyone else. Surely now, with even more multiculturalism, it just isn't an issue.

@ChagSameachDoreen They do, yes. I've been a teacher and there was definitely bullying around names. Obviously when teachers learned of it, we did what we could to stop the perpetrator, but I'd rather not hand a mean nickname to a bully for my child.

We dealt with kids calling classmates "Fatty Fatty Fatima", "Lizardbreath" (Elizabeth), and the unfortunate Pakistani boy called "Shithead".

My eldest do went to school with a Scott. Can’t recall any nicknames.

Yes they do bully around names. I went to school with an Ita Peach. Why would you do that?

I do think that Linus, Dashiell and Rafe are much nicer..
