Having second thoughts on chosen name ..

Baby girl has had this name for around 10 weeks now, even purchased personalised items (silly I know) but we were dead set!
now I’m doubting it .. & imagining her as something else.
chosen name was Ruby
name I’m imagining is Phoebe -
hoping it’s just a blip? Anybody else go through this??
weve never settled on a name so early on before but this name just felt right up until today.. ah!

I don’t think it’s too late if you’re not sold. I think it would be worse to regret not changing it just for the sake of a few items? I like both names

Kite22 · 10/07/2022 21:54

With dc3, we changed her name en-route to the hospital for delivery.

It's not too late until you register her (though a bit more difficult once you have told everyone after she is born)

Violetandpurple · 10/07/2022 22:00

Thanks both.
i do love the name, I’m just having doubt - I think it’s because I’ve been in hospital this week & the slight panic that she may have arrived has made me question everything!
but I also don’t want to regret changing it.
our youngest had name for quite a while and we changed it when she was born - I love her name and couldn’t imagine her being anything else but the name we didn’t chose has always been on my mind since and I don’t want that to happen this time..

I’d keep the 2 as a shortlist and make a decision when she’s here.

Both are lovely names, I prefer Phoebe though…

I had one name in mind and when DD was born she just didn't look like that name so we rapidly picked another that does suit her

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/07/2022 22:56

If your DP is up for it try calling her Phoebe for a week and see what you think after that

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/07/2022 22:59

Oh sorry!

Somehow I read it that she was already here and known as Ruby!

In that case wait and see. They are both nice - Phoebe is more classic, Ruby is fun. Ruby was v popular 15 years ago, Phoebe is now. Rubes and Pheebs might be both slightly off putting.

Chloe and Zoe are less popular than either if they are of interest

FlamingoDust · 11/07/2022 19:05

Phoebe is so overused. Ruby has a much nicer sound to it in my opinion

Purpleskygreen · 11/07/2022 19:33

I wouldn’t say Phoebe is overused at all. I don’t know any with 2 dc at primary school. Ruby much more overused imo.
Both good options though OP, maybe just wait until she’s here and see!

TheDuchessOfMN · 11/07/2022 19:38

Ruby is much nicer, but then I don’t like Phoebe at all. Fee-be, it’s just not a nice sound, imo 🤷‍♀️

Is she due this month? Ruby is the birthstone for July Smile

craggydragon · 11/07/2022 19:39

Phoebe IS overused from kids I know. I prefer Ruby

Palmpeople · 11/07/2022 19:50

I personally love Phoebe, much nicer and more interesting than Ruby I think. There are quite a few Ruby’s around here too, if thinking about which is more used. Look at DarkerGreener OP, Phoebe very slightly more popular now but declining, and it has never even entered the top 20, whereas Ruby spent years in the top 20 and has been number 1. Also declining now though. I wouldn’t say either are overused though, especially when compared to names like Isla, Eva, Mia, Olivia, Amelia etc etc

LT2 · 12/07/2022 09:04

I do know more Phoebes than Rubys. I suspect Phoebe is more common, if that bothers you? I know an adult Phoebe and I also know a child. I only know one child Ruby.
I would choose Ruby personally! But make sure you are sure before announcing. I have a 6 month old and I've had massive anxiety over his name. I was so sure of it for so long and this didn't happen until he was 4 months old. People say don't tell anyone what it is but I wish I had asked for opinions beforehand!
