Edward or Miles?

Me and my partner cannot decide between the names Edward nn Eddie or Miles? Our last name begins with M. I’m a teacher so names can be quite tricky for us!
Just would like some general thoughts on the two different names.
Thanks in advance ☺️

Of those two, Miles. But I would prefer Edmund to either.

emmathedilemma · 04/07/2022 20:14

Edward. I don’t like Miles at all.

tulipsunday · 04/07/2022 20:15

Edward is lovely

FlissyPaps · 04/07/2022 20:30

Miles

cptartapp · 04/07/2022 20:30

i much prefer Miles.

SparklingPeach · 04/07/2022 22:19

Edward

Potatomashed · 04/07/2022 22:22

This is random but my parents tossed between those names for my brother. They went with Edward which suits him and gave him lots of nickname/identity changed in his teenage years

I was in love with a Myles throughout secondary school. Love the name. It was a bit out of its lane in the area I grew up, but this made him stand out. That, and he had a beautiful face

FungalNail · 04/07/2022 22:25

Miles or Milo

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/07/2022 22:31

Edward for me - total classic with some great namesakes which is very timeless (having never left the top 100) so people can't pigeonhole an Edward as to age, background etc. Though I must admit Eddie is my least fave of the Edward nn's - but then one of the other benefits of Edward is the wide variety of nn's/diminutives.

TuftyMarmoset · 04/07/2022 22:32

Edward. Lovely classic name! I really don’t like Miles, I do like Milo though.

MissEmily5 · 04/07/2022 22:33

What a coincidence! :) I love how many nicknames you can get from Edward particularly Eddie which is cheeky and fun. But I also love how Miles is a little unusual and my partner loves the alliteration of the first and surname. Tricky decisions!

Not fond of either, but miles from these two. X

JazzyBBG · 04/07/2022 22:39

Given your surname is an M then definitely Miles for some alliteration! But I am bias as Miles is a family name but it is very under rated in my opinion. Use Edward as a middle name.

Sandsnake · 04/07/2022 22:39

For me it’s Edward by miles! (Sorry)

RoseMartha · 04/07/2022 22:45

I dont particularly like either but i would go for Edward as can shorten it to Ted or Eddie or Ed.

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 04/07/2022 22:50

I was going to say Miles... until you said your surname begins with M.
I don't really like alliterative names. If it sounds OK, go for it!
Otherwise Edward.

Dinoteeth · 04/07/2022 22:52

Edward, not a big fan of Miles.

Apollonia1 · 04/07/2022 22:54

I think they're both lovely names.

Miles was on my list.
Edward was in my list as a middle name (since it's my grandfather's name).

Miles probably is my preference.

NickyNora · 04/07/2022 22:56

I prefer Miles

Amid · 04/07/2022 23:00

Edward. Love Eddie. Wish I had used it.

KirstenBlest · 05/07/2022 08:30

Depends on the surname. Miles Moore sounds silly, but Miles Miller isn't too bad.

I prefer Edward anyway, and Ed, Eddie/Eddy are fine. Teddy is too popular, and Ned is awful
