Rosanna vs Rosanne

Bellacatt · 29/06/2022 17:38

We are really (really) struggling with names. I'm pushing for Rosanna but OH isn't a fan, although said he prefers Rosanne/Roseanne. What are your thoughts on Rosanne? I still prefer Rosanna but this is the closest we have come to an agreement.
Should I give in or keep pushing for Rosanna?

If he doesn't like it then you shouldn't continue to push it, it doesn't if everyone on mumsnet thinks it's the bees knees, it's his baby not theirs so his opinion is the one that is important.

I personally prefer Roseanne, despite me normally preferring names ending 'a' such as Rowena, Imelda, Marina... Have you considered Rosalie, Rosalyn, or Rosalind which are also similar?

I understand where you're coming from, but my partner does have a tendency to change his mind every few days about what he likes and doesn't like. I never thought this decision would be so hard!

The main point if this post was to gather opinions in Roseanne really. I've never really heard of it before until he suggested it!

I like Rosanna a lot more, its a lovely name.

Roseanne is nice but seems much more dated and tied to the tv show with the racist lead.
The show is the only place I had heard the name and it is the 1st thing that comes up when you google it

Mushroo · 29/06/2022 18:16

I prefer Rosanne as Rosanna just gets the Toto song stuck in my head straight away.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/06/2022 18:23

I like them both. Does one or other sound better with your surname?

That's the reason I prefer Rosanna Smile

Rosanna by Toto is a great song! The Rosanne TV show would put me off the name. Rosie is lovely, do you both like that as a nickname?

Never heard of it until I googled the name Roseanne! I was born in 1997 so 🤷‍♀️ not a huge problem for us

It came out way before I was born too, and I have never seen it. but it got renewed in 2018 and thats when racist stuff came out too. Thats the only reason I heard the name.

Never heard of the tv show if I'm honest so probably wouldn't be a problem. And I love the Rosanna song so also not a problem, haha! We both like Rosie yeah, but I'm not keen on nicknames on birth certificates so want her to have a longer version. I also like Roseanna/Roseanne more than other Rose names (although I do love them all!) as I also like Annie

Roseanne seems really dated, like a 1960s name, and makes me think of Roseanne Barr. Rosanna is much nicer but your DH doesn't like it

jellybe · 29/06/2022 18:52

Rosanna is the best of the two though not overall keen on either. If your DH doesn't like them I think you might have to go back to the drawing board as trying to convince him to like a name doesn't seem fair.

As a previous Poster said do you like Rosie? Not as a nick name but as her name? I think it's lovely.

Ellmau · 29/06/2022 19:10

I prefer Rosanna but Roseanne is lovely too.

DontLikeCoffee · 29/06/2022 20:01

Prefer Rosanna but if your DH doesn’t like it then it’s a no go.

resm · 29/06/2022 21:50

What about Rosa?

Jazzyjeff44 · 29/06/2022 21:54

I much prefer names with an A on the end so Joanna rather than Joanne, Isabella rather than Isabelle etc.
So personally I much prefer Rosanna. Just sounds prettier. Rosie is a lovely nickname too.

Honaloulou · 29/06/2022 21:57

Putting in a vote for Rozanne....

IStandWithMaya · 29/06/2022 21:58

Rosanna

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 29/06/2022 22:40

Rosanna

pushingpoppies · 29/06/2022 22:51

Rosanne is lovely. Older names are very much back in fashion. I think names ending A can sound a bit young and childish and too girly

DramaAlpaca · 29/06/2022 22:52

Rosanna is my favourite of all the 'rose' names.

Wond3rment · 29/06/2022 23:24

I know a Roseanne and she’s lovely so Roseanne gets my vote

Hadtocomment · 30/06/2022 17:59

I know you didn't want suggestions but Rosina is similar but without any of the associations mentioned above. I like that it seems more like one name than Rose plus Anne or Anna.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/06/2022 20:39

Yes Rosanna is much, much lovelier, it’s like Julie v Julia, Marie vs Maria, Estelle vs Estella - the Latin form just sounds better than the French an English accent.

Also you can tell him she can be Rosanne for short
