Alternatives to Sunday

I love the name Sunday but just feel the connotations are a bit too out there. I don’t want my daughter going through life constantly having to explain their “weird name”
any alternatives esp with similar sounds? (Please just don’t say other days of the week haha)

Sundae (as in ice cream)
Wednesday (as in Addams)
Sunny/Sonny/Sunni
Jay/May/Fay

Glitterspy · 29/06/2022 13:22

Leonie also an option: Lay-oh-nee rather than Lee-oh-nee (although someone I know has this name and it’s always being misspelled and mispronounced so you’re practically better off with Sunday)

Ceadaoin, it's Irish for Wednesday.

Kay Deen

Why on earth would you go with an Irish day of the week! 😂😂 and why Wednesday?

How about an actual name?Grin

jewishmum · 29/06/2022 13:37

I knew a South African girl called Shonrae (pronounced SHON-ray) meaning 'Sun ray' in Afrikaans.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 29/06/2022 13:40

Sunny/sonny?

TealGuitar · 29/06/2022 13:40

What would you do if she wasn't born on a Sunday?

Plenty of Mays and Junes aren't born in May or June

PiratePetespajamas · 29/06/2022 13:48

I like it. I don’t think it’s out there. But i’d only use it if she were born on a Sunday. I know a January born in August and it seems perverse and just wrong to me.

Cotswoldmama · 29/06/2022 14:08

Sunday isn't that unusual or out there, I know two. I assume they're born on Sunday but tbh I haven't asked and don't really care! I think it's a nice name and don't think people will ask about it, they'll just think that's the day she was born.

PoleFairy · 29/06/2022 14:22

I like Sunday. I don't think it's that unusual. Nicole Kidmans daughter is Sunday and so is Ferne McCann's. I also read a book recently with a character called Sunday. The family was Irish Catholic so I think that's where Sunday came from.

JustMaggie · 29/06/2022 15:01

Cassidy is nice. I think it has the same feel as Sunday.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/07/2022 21:52

I think it's a lovely name.

buckleten · 01/07/2022 21:58

I think it's really pretty, maybe use the Sundae spelling rather than the day of the week, but either is fine!

CP2701 · 01/07/2022 22:38

Sunni
Summer
Autumn
Seren - Welsh for Star

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 01/07/2022 22:44

Sunday is better than Sundae. You might as well call her Meringue or Pavlova if you go for that. Or Tutti Frutti.

KirstenBlest · 01/07/2022 22:45

Sundae is dreadful. Might as well call her Banana Split or Trifle

MarmiteCoriander · 01/07/2022 22:46

I too was going to suggest days of the week in other languages that might make nice sounds.

Avril/April
Mardi
Jeudi
