How many Harrison’s do you know?

We’re having a boy and the only name we can semi agree on is Harrison or Harry.
so how many Harrison’s do you know? Is it massively popular.

I’ve worked with a lot of children so a lot of names I associate with children so are automatically off the list. I also don’t like biblical names.

I really like Rafferty but DH not so much, he likes Alexander me so not much 🤣

last name will also start with a H

I have a 15yo Harrison and it's very popular where I am for his age group.

I believe you can look up baby names by postcode.

user375242 · 26/06/2022 15:54

It has been in the top 50 in England and Wales or very close for the last 20 years, which equates to approximately 17k babies born a year named Harrison. Which is a lot, but on the other hand there are about 614k babies born in England and Wales a year. When prince Harry named his son Harrison I thought it was a surprising choice and to me it was a name that was trendy in about 2005 (when my eldest was born), but after looking it up I realise it has stayed steadily popular since 2000. I know 5, a range of ages between 0 and 16.

Personally I vetoed names in the top 50, but that is more because I'd hate for a child of mine to have a name in the top 10, I had a top 1 name when I was born and it was always a nightmare at school having to use my surname and being given a number. But if I really loved the name and it had been around the top 60 steadily and wasn't still on an upward peak I'd probably be happy to use it.

Try using Dark Greener search tool to check name stats, it is very useful, but runs a year or two behind.

If I loved the name and it had remained steadily around the top 50 I meant to say, not 60.

Samthenanny · 26/06/2022 15:56

@CatkinToadflax nope last name isn’t a interchangeable one just starts with the same initial so his initials would be HH.

None as a guest name.

Loads as a surname.

I wouldn't with an H surname.

Maireas · 26/06/2022 16:12

I teach 4 (secondary school)
About 20 x Harry though. Make it stop!

SpringIntoChaos · 26/06/2022 16:13

Four

1: 7 year old in my class
2: 8 year old (in my class last year)
3: 19 year old nephew
4: 35 year old...friend of my daughter

One goes by Hal, one by Harry, the younger 2 still get called Harrison, but I'm guessing they'll change as they get older. Hal/Harry both dropped their full name at high school.

ProperVexed · 26/06/2022 16:14

I work in a 2 form entry primary school. Each class of 30 has a Harry/ Harrison. Some classes have 2. Very popular.

WhackingPhoenix · 26/06/2022 16:16

I knew a Harrison when I was younger, he always smelt of damp washing and I’ve never liked the name since 😅😂

xyzzyx · 26/06/2022 16:16

One who I went to school with so he would be in his 30s now...

SpringIntoChaos · 26/06/2022 16:21

If we are also counting Harry...I've had at least one in my class I think every year (and I'm 28 years in!) It's very popular, but nowhere NEAR as popular as Oliver/Ollie 😱 One year I had 4 x Oliver, 3 x Ollie, 1 x Holly and 1 x Hollie 🤣 Added to that, I had an Ellie and a Lilly! 😬🤦‍♀️😱

Samthenanny · 26/06/2022 16:27

@WhackingPhoenix 🤣🤣

True here, too! Ollie, Lily, Emily, Grace, Eva, Tom, Will, Jack, Harry...
If I forget kids' names, I just call one of the above and someone answers Grin

Aspidistra1 · 26/06/2022 16:38

Harrison x 1 - Canadian, mid 30s

Harris would also be an option for you. Lots in Scotland, very few elsewhere in the UK.

WhereIsVillanelleWhenNeeded · 26/06/2022 16:40

1, mid 20s

thinkfast · 26/06/2022 16:42

North London. Know quite a few little Harrisons.

BabyB2022 · 26/06/2022 17:37

I know 1, and soooo many Harry's so definitely think it's less common.

Figgygal · 26/06/2022 17:40

3 all 10 and in year 5
Very popular in 2011/12 apparently

HappyGoDucky · 26/06/2022 17:47

I'm a sports coach and teach around 500 kids aged 5months- 18years each week. Currently have 10 Harrisons on the books. Also have 1 Harris too. Obviously loads of Harry's.

User3568975431146 · 26/06/2022 17:49

I know 7 Harrison's. Very common name.

Pretzerella · 26/06/2022 17:52

Three.
Two boys, one 18 and one 6 and a little girl aged 2.
