Dh's are Mary, Mary, Martha and Jane. They all died before he was born but he has an aunt who is nearly 100 who can remember one of them who was born around 1845.

Such a blonde moment last night. I blame having a very ill child in hospital.

so my other two great grandmothers names were:

Mary Agnes
Margaret Rankine

Love reading all those who have replied. I think names back then were so elegant.

This thread has inspired me to find out.

Ambrose and Jeanne

Victor and Muriel

George and Christine

No idea about the others. I believe they died when that grandmother was a child, and she was raised by aunts. They would have been born around 200 years ago though!

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/06/2022 00:05

You must have 4?

Teresa and Nora on one side, no idea on the other

John Tyler, 10th President of the US, was born in 1790. He still has a live grandson. So it's possible to have Great Grandparents born 200 years ago. Probably unusual. But possible.

One was Jane and one was Eva. On my Dad's side I don't know.

It kind of shocks me that I don't know. It's just my grandparents' parents. Wow.

Navykitchen · 27/06/2022 00:37

Jane, Isabella, Mary, Ellen

My grandparents were all dead by the time I was out of primary school. My dad's parents died when he was a very young boy. I only really know their names and those of the previous generation because I've done some family tree related research. My DC only had one live grandparent after they were 3 and that one died when they were in High School. We are unfortunately not a very long lived family. There is currently no-one alive on mine or DHs side who is older than mid 60's. Obviously we are hoping to buck the trend.

Honestly no idea about the other three.

I think Winifred met me when I was a baby in 1976, then she died soon after. She was from Dorset & he was a Scottish sailor.

Lilian died in 1960, she was one of the first ever women soldiers who served in France in ww1 in the WRAC. Her husband was Jewish but converted to Christianity.

Elizabeth died in the 1920s I believe. Her docker husband was a bigamist when they got married & had 11 children.

Annie was rumoured to have been Romany, photos show she had dark olive skin & always wore her long black hair in ear plaits like Carrie Fisher in Star Wars.

CoalCraft · 28/06/2022 17:57

The two who's names I know we're Jean and Winifred.
