Guess what I'm currently watching in Amazon prime haha

What are your thoughts on the name Jeremiah? I've always quite liked it but would worry about shortening e.g Jez eurgh

OP posts:

I prefer Jedediah, nn Jed, but yes, I love all the old biblical names. Isn't it a bit of a mouthful though if you're not going to shorten it? Jerry?

WeasilyPleased · 19/06/2022 22:25

My mum used to sing a song about a frog called Jeremiah!

Darnoot1 · 19/06/2022 22:26

I love it and think Jerry is a phenomenally cute nn.

Namechangedforspooky · 19/06/2022 22:28

The one I know is shortened to Jem which I think is nice

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 19/06/2022 22:28

Jeremiah was a bull frog

Melliphant · 19/06/2022 22:34

Old Jeremiah used to be our rag and bone man (that probably ages me!). Don't know what he was actually shouting, but it sounded very much like Old Jeremiah, so that's what everyone called him. Could never call a baby that, it would age him by about 70 years. Jez would be a significant improvement.

Aspidistra1 · 19/06/2022 22:37

Jeremiah blow the fire, puff puff puff, first you blow it gently then you blow it rough rough rough.

It’s not the worst first association!

I quite like it OP, it’s long though when he’s learning to write his name. Jerry and Jem are both cute. Less keen on Jez but you know you’ve no control over that!

DrNo007 · 19/06/2022 22:40

When I was a kid, “Oh Jeremiah” was a sweary expression of exasperation, sort of like, “Oh bloody hell”. So I couldn’t get beyond that association, sorry.

escapingthecity · 19/06/2022 22:42

Makes me think of bringers of bad news given the biblical link. It's a weighty name for a baby.

Reallyreallyborednow · 19/06/2022 22:43

I like it.

what are you watching on amazon prime?

SummerPuddings · 19/06/2022 22:44

🐸

Thepossibility · 19/06/2022 22:48

I love it and Jerry is an amazing NN!

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/06/2022 22:51

It’s OK, he will get Jez or Jerry because it’s so long.

Jerome?

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 19/06/2022 22:58

Jem is a great nn! Sounds like something out of Poldark.

CherryRipe1 · 19/06/2022 22:58

It was my Irish granddad's name. I love it but he did get called Jerry.

Primatrying · 20/06/2022 08:57

Prefer Jeremy but I like Jerry and Jem.

I know someone with an adult Jeremy who goes by Jez. She hates it but has no control over it, it started at uni.

babyjellyfish · 20/06/2022 09:05

I like it, with Jem for a nickname.

FayCarew · 20/06/2022 09:22

No because of the biblical association.
Jeremy is better

BE22 · 20/06/2022 09:25

The actor Jerry O'connell is a Jeremiah 😍

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/06/2022 09:26

Jeremiah - prophet of doom.

I wouldn't use it.

ChagSameachDoreen · 20/06/2022 09:36

Puts me in mind of a crazy fire & brimstone preacher in the Deep South.

SSDDagain · 20/06/2022 09:40

Have gone right off it which is a shame as its a nice name.
Unfortunately it belongs to a proper troublemaker on my street who has got anger issues and has had the police round for throwing bricks at their front door and chucking a knife around the garden. (He's about 13/14)
Not 100% blaming him as his mum is just as bad, swearing and kicking him out of the house regularly.
So negative connotations for me.

Ouchmytoe100 · 20/06/2022 10:16

I love it but would be very shocked if little Jeremiah's parents were not very religious

AuntieStella · 20/06/2022 10:18

it's a rather pessimistic sort of name, but it sounds nice
