Which one? Can you think of any others along this theme? I know I have some traditional names mixed in the list but I’m mainly after something modern & workable in the UK. It needs to be a proper Indian name & not just an Indian sounding name!

Anahita
Roshni
Maitreyi
Maithili
Rania

I love Roshni and Anahita.

Anahita is my favourite on your list.
I’ve always loved Kavita but not sure if it’s contemporary enough for your shortlist?

AintNoPartyLikeANumber10Party · 07/06/2022 09:40

Also Nalini

Turquoisa80 · 07/06/2022 09:43

Your list is nice, my favourite is maitreyi but I'd spell it as maitri.. Maybe.. I also like aarohi, annika, rischa, nidhi, saloni, taani, anaya, bhavi, radhika

Jagsy · 07/06/2022 09:50

Maya, Roshni, Nidhi, Shreya/Shria, Ishi

ForestFae · 07/06/2022 09:51

I like Rania and Roshni. I also like Anaya, which we considered for DD, would that work?

Namesnames99 · 07/06/2022 09:51

@Turquoisa80 Is Maitreyi pronounced more like Maitri? I would want to spell how it’s pronounced if possible to avoid confusion

I know a maytri with this spelling nd pronunciation. I think the spelling maitreyi might be confusing for people who have never heard the name

Hadtocomment · 07/06/2022 17:10

Absolutely love Roshni.

Namesnames99 · 07/06/2022 17:33

@Hadtocomment why does it stand out to you in particular out of the others? Just curious!! :)

Hi OP, I’m Indian origin/hindu

of your list, Roshni stands out as most ‘workable’ - phonetic spelling & easy for English speakers to say. I also think it’s clearly a girls name

what I like less about your other suggestions is that they can be confused for other names

eg

Anahita/Anita
Roshni
Maitreyi/Maya
Maithili
Rania/Rani

Maithili is not a name I’ve heard before but I’ve noticed lots of native English speakers don’t pronounce the soft ‘th’ in Hindu names correctly

what other names are you thinking of?

last thing to say is: you should choose the name you love & teach your child to tel others to pronounce it correctly 😊

blameitonthecaffeine · 07/06/2022 22:59

I love Rania.

SpaceJamtart · 07/06/2022 23:01

Rania is beautiful
