We had agreed on Oscar but I'm starting to go off it.
Any other Celtic/Irish boy names similar?

Oisin?

SailingBuddy · 05/06/2022 22:04

I was going to suggest Oisin too. He was Oscar’s father in the myths/legends wasn’t he?

Eamonn surely due a comeback and similar to Adian which is popular

What do you like about Oscar? Is it the meaning, sound or how the name looks?
What sort of surname do you have?

SycamoreTall · 06/06/2022 14:45

Oscar is very nice. I can't decide if I love it or not, maybe I just like it.

Alasdair (if you like the R ending, which I do)

A mixture of other Irish/Scottish:

Cormac
Ronan
Rowan
Rory
Aidan
Eoin or Eoghan
Ewan
Ferdia
Colm
Dara or Darragh

Macsen, if Welsh is good too!

Now that's a question. I don't really know, my husband came up with it and I agreed but now I'm not sure.

I like names like Charlie, Oliver(Ollie) which he hates.

We have semi agreed on Oscar or Joseph. We did for a while both like Ben, I still really like Ben.

Then I'd choose a less common first name!

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/06/2022 22:05

Alistair, Ivor, Ivo, Owen, Innes, Kester.. or if you like the a end then all the biblical ones - Jonah, Noah, Josiah, Joshua, Elijah, Elisha, Ezra, Zachariah

Oscar is nice but there are many of them

MrsB902 · 09/06/2022 20:38

We have an Oscar ☺️ I was the same as you - started to question whether I did really love the name towards the end of pregnancy but now that he is here I absolutely adore it and can’t imagine him being called anything else.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/06/2022 20:45

We have a little Oswald at school. Two years I would have said "eew, that's horrid", but I now think it's great. It's amazing what a nice child can do for a name...

BanjoVio · 09/06/2022 20:48

Oran ☺️

unknownscot · 26/06/2022 13:30

Update: we didn't name him Oscar 😂
