We love DS's name: Julian, which has suited him since birth and my enthusiasm hasn't waned for.

Now expecting DC 2, a girl! I've got the following on my list so far; I've put them in order of favourite to least favourite:

Grace
Sylvie
Sienna
Seren
Niamh
Hayley
Edith
Annabel

Problem is, my husband doesn't like any of them.

Please share your name wisdom. Thanks!

Grace - nice but dull. Not a patch on Julian - sorry
Sylvie - brilliant with Julian. Similar feel
Sienna - sorry but being brutal this feels so tacky compared with Julian
Seren- nice
Niamh - ok
Hayley - no. Too dated and not in a good way
Edith - gorgeous. This is my favourite name on your list
Annabel - ok

Julian and Edith or Julian and Sylvie are lovely.

Other names i think would work well:
Beatrice
Florence
Cecily
Dorothea / Dorothy
Thea
Felicity
Louisa
Emilia

Julian and Grace - ok
Julian and Sylvie - no
Julian and Sienna - she would feel she had drawn the short straw
Julian and Seren - nice
Julian and Niamh - nice if you have Irish heritage
Julian and Hayley - no
Julian and Edith - yes
Julian and Annabel - yes

Also maybe:
Julian and Clara
Julian and Serena
Julian and Camille
Julian and Alexandra
Julian and Susannah

kimwexlerfan · 04/06/2022 11:57

Edith is the best on the list.

I'll also throw Georgina in to the mix.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/06/2022 13:27

I think you need a bit of sophistication to go with Julian.

Annabel works but frilly
Serena rather than Seren is lovely
Sylvia rather than Sylvie is very nice too
Grace and Edith are lovely but overused
Sienna is downmarket, and Niamh and Hayley are weird matches. Other ideas

Francesca
Susannah
Frances
Claudia
Lucinda
Marianne
Marina
Stella
Estella
Lois
Jocelyn
Felicity
Sarah
Verity
Caroline
Cecily
Annis

Problem is, my husband doesn't like any of them.

Can you post your husband's list too, then people can suggest compromise names?

I like:

Julian and Camille
Julian and Suzannah
Julian and Louisa
Julian and Harriet
Julian and Dorothea

Julian means “youthful” or “Jove’s child”
Jove is another name for Jupiter ,the chief ancient Roman and Italian god. So what about:
-Jupiter
-Jovie
-Josie
Julian gives a sophisticated French vibe even though the French spelling would be Julien
-Vivienne
-Colette
-Elise
I love Grace and Edith out of your suggestions and I think they will go really well with Julian especially Edith nn edie
does Julian go by any nicknames?

allinadaystwerk · 04/06/2022 13:43

I think you need a name starting with a consonant otherwise "Julian and E... " or "Julian and A.." becomes "julianande" or "Juliananda".

I'm not normally picky about stuff like that.

I don't think your name choices really go well with Julian, nothing wrong with them otherwise.

Personally I think something that harks back to classical times would go well:
Helena
Antonia
Cassia
