Is this nice? It's not for me, friend wants unusual short girls names for ending with 'a'

I like it but for some reason I can’t accept it as a full name! Just can’t get my head around it not being short for something. Which is not like me at all!

KirstenBlest · 26/05/2022 18:10

Ate a what?

@gingaling yes that's how a lot of people pronounce 'ate a'. I eta plum yesterday etc. Not that it matters really. It's a nice enough name. I wouldn't use it as I don't pronounce both Ts together ends up not sounding very nice. So depends where you're from.

Whiskeypowers · 26/05/2022 18:26

Makes me think of the Basque separatist terror group

Snowiscold · 26/05/2022 18:27

I don’t like it. It’s just a bland, forgettable non-name and not a very nice-sounding one as well. Short for Henrietta etc, it’d be fine.

AyeEee123 · 26/05/2022 18:27

I like it.

justanotherlaura · 26/05/2022 18:33

I immediately think of Etta James the singer, it seems like more of a nickname than a full first name to me

And her name was Jamesetta really.

Bobbins36 · 26/05/2022 18:36

Had an Aunty Etta, lovely lady, nice name, traditional but not overused 👍

AnnaSW1 · 26/05/2022 18:36

I love it. It would be on my list if I had another girl.. but it's not unusual. Not where I live anyway

Whatagrapefruit156 · 26/05/2022 18:37

No

SilkBlouse · 26/05/2022 18:37

Love it. Was on my list for DD.

Etta James is my first thought, which is a good association.

LosingTheWill2022 · 26/05/2022 18:39

I really like it.
There are 2 Ettas in my family - one was my great Aunt and her given name was Janet but always known as Etta then a cousin named her daughter after her but just Etta.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 26/05/2022 19:04

It's ok as a nickname but not a full name.
I know someone with an Etta and she gets sick of everyone asking what it's short for.

My thoughts exactly

ShadowPuppets · 26/05/2022 19:53

I know a couple of baby Ettas born in the last couple of years, I think it’s nice but agree it feels a bit like a nickname. There’s a lot of names it could be short for, my favourite would be Harriet.

chocolateoranges33 · 26/05/2022 19:56

I love it! Beautiful name ♥️

FlamingoDust · 26/05/2022 20:15

Love it!

Furrbabymama87 · 26/05/2022 20:17

I know an Etta Violet. Sounds like ate a violet. Don't like it, sorry.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/05/2022 02:59

Not really. It’s ok as a short of Henrietta. Also it’s having a moment and will date

Esther, Stella, Astra, Aster, Honor, Oona, Ida, Cara, Gaia, Hera, Katya, Philippa nn Pippa, Sara, Tara, Tessa, Zelda, Vita, Greta, Anya, Sorcha, Dinah, Thora, Frieda, Briar, Elva, Petra, Flora, Zelda, Ciara, Cora, Lissa.. are all preferable

The first thing that springs to mind is that the ideal name would have been Violetta (nickname Etta) in that scenario...

Margaret, Juliet(te), Alyette, Harriet/Henrietta, etc. all work as long names... but it sounds as though the short version is preferred. I really like just Etta on it's own!

ChagSameachDoreen · 27/05/2022 07:37

Sound like a stutter.

GreatCuppa · 27/05/2022 09:08

I just don’t get what there is to like about it. It’s not a nice sounding name, it’s short and nicknamey and very ‘meh’.

P00rKids · 27/05/2022 09:14

I love it and it’s because it makes me think of a beautiful Etta James song/ Dua Lipa cover
