Help! Sibling name for Orla!

Lotusflower3 · 26/05/2022 00:39

We are expecting another baby and I love the name Isla but worried it’s too similar to Orla? Some friends think they go well together and others think they are too similar and prefer our other name choices such as Millie and Daisy. What are your thoughts?

Thanks! X

I think the la at the end makes it a little too similar personally but if you love the name you should use it. Or perhaps how about Maya?

Snowiscold · 26/05/2022 07:43

Isla is far too similar to Orla.
Daisy is best out of your other choices.
Millie is too twee for my tastes -I’d feel shortchanged if called that when my sister had a full proper name.

nappiesandcontracts · 26/05/2022 07:53

Yes I'd tend do agree with @Snowiscold
If you like Millie how about Amelia nn Millie?

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/05/2022 03:13

Too similar really

Millie and Daisy are too twee though

How about Iona, Adela or Isadora ?

Villagewaspbyke · 27/05/2022 03:15

Alan?

pitterypattery00 · 27/05/2022 16:54

I don't think they are too similar but maybe it helps that in my Scottish accent the pronunciation of the two names is quite distinct (very strong r in Orla).

in my accent (!) I also like Orla with:
Eilidh
Ailsa
Iona
Eimear
Maeve
Grace
Iris
Morven
Mairi

You can't have Orla and Isla.

Oonagh, Maeve, Niamh.

Something beginning with an E sounds nice with Orla.

While beautiful I do think Isla is a little close to Orla - that being said I LOVE the name Daisy! Totally underrated :)

DurdleSnore · 27/05/2022 22:09

I agree that Orla and Isla are too similar and wouldn’t work for sisters. Not keen on Millie or Daisy; they seem a bit frilly next to Orla. How about Iris as that’s got a similar sound to Isla, is a flower like Daisy but matches the stronger feel of Orla?

Kite22 · 27/05/2022 23:04

Niamh

Not Orla and Isla, too similar. How about Aoife?

Esme?

elle0305 · 30/05/2022 00:12

Isla is so similar to Orla, I couldn’t even imagine trying to call both these names under one roof! Daisy is my favourite out of the others, I don’t rate Millie at all, I would always suggest Amelie to anyone liking Millie

RewildingAmbridge · 30/05/2022 00:22

I know an Orla with a sister Thea, I think Niamh or Maeve work best though

AuntTwacky · 30/05/2022 00:31

Merryn

Jacky86 · 30/05/2022 19:31

I think you would have to pick another Irish name like Niamh, Emer or Ciara.
