I don't like the trend for random Irish surnames (Rafferty, Quinn, Ryan, Cassidy etc) being used as first names, so it's a No from me.

pisspants · 25/05/2022 22:57

I think it's sounds quite pretentious and don't like it, sorry

coffeecupsandfairylights · 25/05/2022 22:58

I really don't like it, sorry!

VerveClique · 25/05/2022 22:58

Charles Rafferty Whatever would be so much nicer!

EBearhug · 25/05/2022 22:58

Makes me think of the horse in the Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall.

TeddyTonks · 25/05/2022 23:00

Charles is definitely the middle name, won't be the first name. It's a family name and want DC to have his 'own' first name.

Cumbersome

Oldfilmsareshit · 25/05/2022 23:03

Rafferty was in the Bullingdon club with Johnson and Cameron no? I think he shat in the pigs head

1963andbewildered · 25/05/2022 23:03

I really like Rafferty …it’s a cool name in this part of the UK !

scrivette · 25/05/2022 23:04

I like it, I know 2, baby Rafferty goes by 'Raffy' at the moment.

echt · 25/05/2022 23:06

It's a dog's name, but then my view is coloured by experience. I first encountered Chloe as a budgie in the early 60s, and the impression has been just as indelible.

ofwarren · 25/05/2022 23:07

I don't like it, it's a surname.
Rafferty Charles is a mouthful too, it doesn't flow at all.

SpaceJamtart · 25/05/2022 23:09

Makes me think of raffia coasters
And in use it seems a bit pretentious and wet

GrinAndVomit · 25/05/2022 23:11

I like it

ellieboolou · 25/05/2022 23:14

It's bloody awful, and even worse if his nn would be riff, raff

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 25/05/2022 23:14

I know 2 boys called Rafferty...both from v pretentious think they bare better than you families so never liked it but if you like it op go for it. Your baby, your choice

TeddyTonks · 25/05/2022 23:14

Seems like a very marmite name.

Funnily enough, our surname is often used as a first name so I guess it could get quite confusing.

Not too worried about it sounding clunky with Charles as middle names are so rarely used.

Also we often get told our other DC names are dog names. Clearly we have a penchant for canine monikers 🤣

Winding your way down on Baker Street
Light in your head and dead on your feet
Well, another crazy day
You'll drink the night away
And forget about ev'rything
This city desert makes you feel so cold
It's got so many people, but it's got no soul
And it's taken you so long
To find out you were wrong
When you thought it held everything

.... love the name ❤

Apollonia1 · 25/05/2022 23:18

I think of Jude Law's son.

It's fine - don't like or dislike.

Topseyt123 · 25/05/2022 23:19

I like Rafferty. Rafferty Charles sounds fine to me too.

whatevernextmrprimeminister · 25/05/2022 23:21

Love Rafferty, not a fan of Rafferty Charles. However I don’t see the point of middle names.

FindingMeno · 25/05/2022 23:23

I bloody love it!

CarrieMoonbeams · 25/05/2022 23:26

Really like it.

AyeEee123 · 25/05/2022 23:27

I have a 10 year old Rafferty so obviously love it! Always had very positive comments on it.

My experience too I'm afraid. I only know one Rafferty and he was the child of one of the most unpleasant, sharp-elbowed, two-faced social climbers I've ever met. She thought the sun shone out her her children's arses when in fact they were out-and-out bullies. She was a governor at the school and I know for a fact that she essentially hounded one family out of the school.

So it's fair to say it doesn't have a good association for me in afraid
