Jasmine, Juliet or something else?

Silverbirchy · 24/05/2022 18:52

I really like Jasmine and Juliet - thoughts on either?

Suggestions welcome. Looking for a name which -

  • is sweet sounding for a little girl but strong sounding for a woman
  • isn't massively overused
  • doesn't end in an 'a' or 'y/ie sound (ideally)

Thanks!

Prefer Jasmine but both are nice.
Juliet has different ways of saying it and that puts me off and not keen on Jules as a nn

WeasilyPleased · 24/05/2022 22:38

Jasmine is great.

DramaAlpaca · 24/05/2022 22:43

I love both and think both fit the bill. I probably have a slight preference for Jasmine.

As a pp mentioned, Juliet's pronunciation could be an issue. I like it when pronounced with the stress on the first syllable, but not so much when pronounced like Juliette.

User6761 · 24/05/2022 23:13

Both are lovely names OP. Unlike PP I only know one way of pronouncing Juliet (julie-ett).

A few other suggestions for non a/ie names:
Iris
Merryn
Marianne
Isobel
Josephine
Violet
Rose
Emeline
Alice

Juliet is my favourite. It was the name I chose for my last child who ended up being a boy.

NoSquirrels · 24/05/2022 23:15

Josephine?

Honaloulou · 24/05/2022 23:15

I like both, and I like both JU-liet and Julie-ET.

I'm not sure that's helpful!

Floralnomad · 24/05/2022 23:18

Both are lovely , I prefer Jasmine . Alternatives : Gabrielle , Vivienne .

ElenaSt · 24/05/2022 23:26

Jolie is a lovely name.

FrecklesMalone · 24/05/2022 23:28

Ove Juliet such a beautiful name. Jasmine is nice.

IStandWithMaya · 24/05/2022 23:39

Juliet - beautiful name.

Just make sure you're comfortable with both common pronunciations as she will definitely get both.

Julie-et (my preference)

Julie-et

Juliet is gorgeously elegant, yet romantic sounding imo so definitely my pick of the two. Jasmine is too popular Disney princess for me - but if you'd said beautiful Jessamine (old English variant of Jasmine), I'd have found it much harder to pick!

Juliet or Juliette - the most beautiful name and the very few very beautiful people I know called Juliet have it shortened to Jewel 💎.

On the other hand I know loads of Jasmines and they get called Jazz.
Jazz hands. 😂

Crikeyalmighty · 25/05/2022 13:06

I think Juliet's a beautiful name and not often used these days -jasmine is nice too- easy to shorten to Jazz when they are a teen if they like that

dollface22 · 25/05/2022 14:36

Jasmine ❤️
