Any issues when applying for first passport after name change.

Hi,

I would like some advice please. We‘ve recently changed the spelling of our baby’s name. She’s under 6 months so it’s in box 17 on her new birth certificate. Has anyone had experience of applying for a first passport after a baby’s name change. Would sending the old and new certificate to the passport office be sufficient evidence or will it be more complex when trying prove my baby’s name change during the application.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sam did this all go ok? I’m going through same thing at the moment and worried about any delays! Did you just send the birth certificates?

Hi, please don’t worry, it’s such a simple process. I changed my DD name, we had the long name to begin with but soon realised she would never be called it and the name we always wanted to call her wasn’t the known shortened name. Anyhow, she has a section 17 name change, you just send their certificate. The passport office knows to check section 17, so on the application you put new name in and they will check that box.

Hi, yes it all went well. I ended up giving the passport office a call, and they said just to send the new certificate as the new name on box 17 overrides the old certificate. We received the passports in less than 4 weeks. Hope it all goes well for you.
