DS 2

Help please.

Still can’t decide on a name for DS2.

For various reasons my DH and I can’t have our favourite names so we think we are down to the following 3. Please could you rank these in order of preference. DS1 is Oli (Oliver) :

Arthur , Harry or Leo

Baby due in August so not sure if this automatically rules out Leo anyway as will people assume wrongly that’s why he’s called it?

I like Leo best, I don't think it matters if he's born in August to be honest.
Arthur - a good name, like a lot.
Harry - not a fan. I've never liked this name but can't really tell you why! If it helps, I've never taught a horrible Harry which is a big plus.

bloominglovelyorange · 21/05/2022 20:05

Leo is lovely and doesn't matter if he's born in august.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/05/2022 20:05

I know 2 Leos and a Leon, they were all born in August!

I like Leo best anyway. Oli and Leo sounds sweet.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/05/2022 20:06

Leo is my fav- I wouldn’t make the connection.

i dont think Arthur goes with Oliver at all

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 21/05/2022 20:07

Lots of ‘L’ sounds with Oli and Leo together.
I’d go with Harry as I don’t like Arthur but that’s just my preference.

What was your favourite name out of interest?

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 21/05/2022 20:16

Thanks everyone

@IAmSantaOhYesIAm I don’t have a preference; because I can’t have my fave names for various legitimate reasons I can find things I don’t like about all the above names given they are not my top choices. It’s prob why we are finding this so hard

OP posts:
Doghairinmybed · 21/05/2022 20:18

i like all three of your names, but if ranking I would say
1 Arthur
2 Harry
3 Leo

Doghairinmybed · 21/05/2022 20:19

Can you tell us your favourites?

SpaceJamtart · 21/05/2022 20:21

I don't think it matters if he's born in August, I wouldn't have ever made that connection.

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 21/05/2022 20:39

@Doghairinmybed i liked Noah, George and William but we can’t have these

OP posts:
Doghairinmybed · 21/05/2022 20:46

I work in a school, we had zillions of Noah’s a few years ago. Less now but wouldn’t even consider it due to sheer numbers of Noahs now age 7, 8,9.
George and William - yeah nice enough but again, so common. Maybe this doesn’t bother you though. I personally think your revised shortlist is nicer anyway and you won’t go wrong with any of these. Good luck choosing! Is baby born yet?

DramaAlpaca · 21/05/2022 20:49

I much prefer the names you are considering to your favourites that you can't have. I think I'd pick Leo myself, but like Arthur and Harry too.

HSKAT · 21/05/2022 20:54

I like them all.
I had a list of 3 and waited until he was born to see what he suited best.

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 21/05/2022 20:54

Baby due in August @Doghairinmybed
Hence the concern of the august/ Leo connection

Thats a good point ref Noah’s however I’m guessing you had and still have zillions of Oliver’s ( my DS1) which at the time of
naming him I don’t think I considered /realised just how popular this was as I didn’t know any further than one adult Oliver. Do you have millions in your school ?

OP posts:
Doghairinmybed · 21/05/2022 20:56

Nope, haven’t had an Oliver for years! Lovely name.

rolotops · 21/05/2022 22:40

DS1 is an Oliver/Oli. We nearly went for Arthur for DS2 but picked Rory instead. We are fairly certain DS3 (due imminently) will be Arlo.

I pressed send too soon... but Arthur is still a contender.

So on that basis I'd pick Arthur out of your list. FWIW we don't know any other Oliver's and he's the only one in his year group.

WeasilyPleased · 21/05/2022 22:51

I like Leo best by quite a lot. Harry comes next because we are surrounded by Arthurs and I personally really dislike the name.

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 22/05/2022 04:44

@rolotops congrats, wishing you luck with your imminent birth
I love love the name Arlo ( I suppose it’s a mixture between Arthur and Leo!!!) . When we were considering this name I wasn’t sure whether it would be considered a name that would be outdated quickly (given my propensity for what people would prob consider classic/timeless names) and didn’t feel ‘brave’ ( not sure if this is the word) enough to add it to the list.

I would be really interested in other peoples thoughts on this?

OP posts:
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/05/2022 12:20

Theo
Alexander
Sebastian

these are the names I associate as similar to Oliver

Arlo is nice but yes less classic so May date

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 22/05/2022 19:09

Would people class theo(dore) as a timeless / classic name ?

Teachers - do you have loads in your classes?

Theo or Leo ?

OP posts:
keziah81 · 22/05/2022 19:16

I do think Arlo will date a bit.

Where I live literally every other little boy is either called Theo or Arthur!

I would go with Leo, second preference Harry Smile

I’ve known Theo’s since I was a child so I don’t think it’s modern as such- defo more popular of late but not a new or made up name.

I slightly prefer Leo.

Mumofgirls2017 · 23/05/2022 13:21

Harry

Theoldwoman · 23/05/2022 13:48
